I will visit Hamburg in the summer, and since I study polonistics, I am interested in everything about Poles and try to find their clues everywhere I go.

Any advice on what should I visit there besides the main attractions in the city?
My main interest is history.

Those folk that emigrated from Poland (partitioned territory), back in the 1800's, are listed as passing through Hamburg.

Hamburg was the main port, through which Poles emigrated to USA and Brazil in XIX c.
The estimations differ significantly, but most of them say that from 1820 to 1914, 2 to 3 mln. people from Poland (at that time partitioned) emigrated. Most of them went through Hamburg port. This emigration had a great impact on Poland, it's social, economical and political situation at that time.

There is a museum in Hamburg dedicated to the emigrants who went through Hamburg to the New World, to follow their dream of better life. It's not exclusively dedicated to Poles, but they are included.

Here you have their facebook site with some pictures: facebook.com/BallinStadtAuswanderermuseum
