Poland is ready to receive up to a dozen of the over 800 Libyan refugees who have arrived to Malta following the insurgency against the Gaddafi regime in Tripoli.

thenews/international/artykul153194_poland-ready-to-receive-libyan-refugees.html

Why should Poland and other countries that have nothing to do with the libyan war take care of the war victims? Why don't the French that are so eager to lead the war against libya take care of the war victims?

We've got huge financial problems. Reduce it to 3.

Indeed, how many were taken in by the UK despite the country being financially ruined after WW2?

Will you accept several million of your countrymen back then?

Nah. Didn't think so.

There'd be even bigger financial problems if even 1% of the Polish refugees scattered round the world over the years were repatriated to their ojczyzna.

Remember 1981? 1968? And pretty well all of the preceding decades...

Whe you've figured that out, you can send that money you promised to return to the EU, in lieu of infrastructure subsidies you think Poland shouldn't get. After all, what are

huge financial problems

compared to the political crises that have led to other countries granting asylum to Poles. But of course your post suggests that you're too mean-spirited to accept refugees. So take the Polish ones back.

"So take the Polish ones back."

If they are ilegall in UK .. no problem. Ups, Poles can go to England.

We didn`t start the libya conflict. UK, france, USA did it. So they should aceept refuges.

I think they were fighting for Poland actually

And there was me thinking it was the Libyan rebels

Which Polish refugees ?

Careful Greg, Two's company, three's a crowd, are you sure you can cope with a crowd of them?

They fought also for UK in RAF. Churchill lost the war, Poland after WWII didn`t exist,( independent) so they went to the country wchich was also defnded by them- to UK.

And there was me thinking it was the Libyan rebels

You are wrong, UK France USA started the conflict. The rebel is false ofc.

We don`t care about Libyan. Personally I think that Kadafi should win.

Poles whose migrated to UK in 2004 are NOT refuges. They could go everywhere in EU. If you give libyan refuges your citizenship, we will accept them in our country.

these ones

Cry me a river, last time there was a big wave of political refugees from Poland we all know how eager the European nations were to receive them, and after WWII it wasn’t much easier either.

These are civillians (and not young men) who've found their houses are suddenly on the front line.

Or seek refuge in the neighboring country? Why it always has to be Europe or/and US coming to the rescue?

....our streets are plastered with gold and the rivers are filled with milk and we sh*it chocolate?

Well, Germany at least has the treaty that we only have to take asylumseekers if they don't come through another EU country...and seeing that we are surrounded by safe countries that should make it hard for them to go through to us...theoretically!

Hey, according to the latest "Conde Nast" the Number 10 "Best Place to See Right Now" is none other than...Libya.

The 250-word blurb proclaims "a door long shut is open again," and ends with a recommendation to fly Lufthansa from New York's JFK via Frankfurt to Tripoli, which has since been shrouded in a NATO-imposed no-fly zone.

I'm looking forward when they are going to put Somalia on the top 10 :)

yeah, like Calais......... what I fail to understand is, why all these asylum seekers are young men, what happened to the old men, women and children? There was a time when refugees tended to consist of whole families

You believe that they are poor, persecuted, political refugees at your own peril.

I once read a series in Spiegel as a journalist followed the way of a nigerian mother across Africa till to an italian camp.

This women left behind her two little children, suffered countless dangers and hardships and spend about 100.000 Dollars for smugglers and other criminal contacts. (I still don't know where that "poor" woman got all that money from as she needed it)

Since then I lost any sympathy with these people...just a tiny amount of that energy, determination and money spend at home or in a neighbouring country would have helped her, her kids and her country much more than her "working" illegally now as some prostitute at some nameless street somewhere in Europe.

We are only the ventil...without us taking them in their home countries would probably explode and things would change for the better. But as long we provide the ventil the masses will come, leaving behind failed states.

Look who's talking. Good portion of them still live in the state of legal limbo in US where they never had a chance to legalize their stay there because US government made it so easy for them. LOL Yup a real charitable, welcoming and neighborly of you, deny them the opportunity to legalize their stay there even though many of them left with a full understanding that they will never be able to return. Ten years on Poland became free so you still deny them the chance to legalize their stay there on those grounds. Many were young at the time so they started families and a new life there, who knew things will turn out how they did, now they are criminals the lot of them with no way of visiting Poland but they are useful in keeping the statistics of Polish illegals there high. Modern day slavery with no rights is the best way to describe it, in the land of the free no less.

They are. Plenty are going there. If, however, Poland wants to be in Europe (and they voted in a free and fair referendum to join) they have to do their bit too. Or leave Europe and pay back the massive infrastructure funding they've received and give up Poles' right to work in the UK, France etc. Extending the hand of compassion to a dozen people who are in crisis is natural under the circumstances.

Or simply impose a waiting period before such luxuries can be afforded by us like almost everyone else did in Europe with us, with few exceptions of course. As for the funds minus the founds we paid in to the system for the privilege of joining it and after of course, not to mention our industries that were shut down as not to compete with what was in western states already. LOL Dont you worry though the future of Europe is still uncertain.
