Juwenalia - holidays for students in Poland (updated)

I'm from Kraków and students life is kind of a big deal there. Juwenalia is a students' holiday before the exams. It takes place is May or beginning of June.

I have many great memories about those days spent with my friends at concerts, by Vistula River, and at AGH campus.

Would anybody like to share his/her memories about those fun times...?

I went to university at WSB-NLU in Nowy Sacz so spent every Juwenalia in Crakow. It was a delight, especially to see students completely take over a city and for the city to allow it. Never in a million years would you find that here in the USA.

We had lots of sport games at juwenalia in Poznan mostly in football, valleyball, basketball, ping pong etc......Archeology-International Business , Architecture - Dentists and so on. Games were taken very seriously but many were too drunk to make impact. Overall AWF used to take - no wonder - all the trophies and Akademia Ekonomiczna all the beatings.

Hi guys,

I'd like to go to Krakow for the Juwenalia. Do you know when it will be this here in Krakow? I've read somewhere that it should be the 8th of May. Can you confirm that?

Thanks for your help :)

Can you confirm that?

Nobody knows exactly, yet, but the university students have a free weekday on May 8th or 15th, so the Juwenalia will probably start around these dates.

I was attending few "Juwenalias" in Gliwice, organized by Silesian University of technology, they are called "igry" here. I have to say that for most students it's just an occasion for heavy over the top drinking ( well actually every event is ; ) ), only thing I remember are huge hangovers, and destroyed rooms in dorms as an afterparty.. nice time, but with years I feel less and less attracted to it, performing bands are more and more generic..

have fun : )

I've just had a look at the Juwenalia websites and have to say I am extremely disappointed, I have heard a lot about Juwenalia and what a bbig party it is......however although I'm sure there is plenty of drinking going on the events themselves look pretty poor

I remember visiting Olsztyn during the Juwenalia event about 11 years ago. It was quite the party for sure. and it still is. My grandmother still lives near the university and she was telling me the other day that the party has started and that the fireworks woke her up at night. she just rolled over and went back to sleep.

Kortowiada (juwenalia in Olsztyn) is the BEST! The concerts are open for everybody, not like in Poznań. And the atmosphere is also great, parties, picnics everywhere. Though it become tradition that it's always raining on the weekend of Kortowiada. It's still great!

Let's update the thread. 2010

Among the bands playing this year in Wroclaw are:

Coma, Kult, Myslovitz, Stiltskin, Hey, Lady Pank

We have the guitar world record attempt. Then a concert

May Weekend. About a dozen bands will be playing

May 7th 8th Juwenalia. At least ten bands

Buy your tickets at least a day or two before, otherwise the price jumps up.

If anyone wants to find me I'll be at at least one of these gigs.

Juwenalia 2011 is Here! Its a shame I'm on the other side of the Globe :( Here in Australia we have "Schoolies" which is a Huge student party which takes place in a city by the beach. Police and Drugs everywhere because its more like a violent uncultured riot than a party.

Anyways I want to know more about Juwenalia. Who can share something? I'm particularly interested in the bad (for some reason, just to compare to our "schoolies").

juwenalia in wroclaw doesn't seem to get the bigger names anymore.

majowka has taken over in that respect.

however, it takes place just across the road from me. if i like it i open the window to hear more. if i don't like it i close the window. this year i think the window will be closed most of the time.

I forgot;)
So, what happened? Nothing special - fun, music, fun, drinking for all the time;)

Juwenalia in Kraków happened between 17.05 and 22.05.

I had grill at Tuesday, concert of Czaqu, Lao Che, Coma, Myslovitz at Thursday. On Friday I went to Museum of Polish Aviation as it was "Night of museums"*, Saturday - break, and at Sunday P.I.W.O**. Of course drinking for all the time;)

Also for all the time people had grill party between academics. Party from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. each day:)

*"Night of museums - museums gave free entry during night.
** P.I.W.O. -
