Human Trafficking in and from Poland

I have read this topic within the news for years now, and it finally struck home when I finished a book by a personally known author Jake Adelstein called Tokyo Vice. It's quite popular, you should pick up a copy. Anyway, seeing as how there are so few Eastern European immigrants in Japan...most of them are women... for human trafficking. However this thread isn't about Japan (which ranks among the top for human trafficking) but where one of the most detailed stories roots from in Adelsteins book. Being an American reporter in Japan for the police beat, many years of experience got Jake a job in the reporter vice which was to examine the underground of the Yakuza, Japan and Tokyo's underground. One massive aspect was human trafficking.

In these underground clubs (and can be compared to those in most other countries as well) the foreign (exotic women) are considered the most attractive, attracting the most business and profits. There are literally clubs in Tokyo which esteem purely on Russian women and in the mix include Ukrainian and Polish women, and if not in these clubs they are working the streets or in other clubs. Here is the jist and well put by a Polish girl Adelstein managed to interview:

"I was poor, and had no place to turn to, I saw an ad about being an international call girl that said I could make as much as $44,000 dollars a month with 50-70% of those profits going to my superiors while I got to keep a significant amount and annually this is tons of money. When I responded to the ad, I was sent extraordinary pictures of the club I would be working at, and over time they eventually situated me at a Tokyo club. I was sent to Germany where there was a central point for all european girls looking to go into such business where they would judge us upon our looks and give us certain clothing and so forth. From there I was approved and given paid tickets to travel to Japan to meet up with a wealthy man called Victor. When I arrived Victor wore expensive Jewelry, wore an expensive suit, and drove an expensive car and was from the Netherlands which calmed me down. When I got to the apartment there were other eastern european girls and some from South America and I was told to hand over my passport and personal belongings so they don't get stolen. When I went to the club it looked like a sleazehole in the middle of the tokyo underground and nothing like the photo I was shown in Warsaw. I was told that everyday I was expected to pay $75 for fees to pay off my loans which I was never told about. These included the plane ticket, the horrible apartment I was jammed into with other girls, and the cheap cloths they gave me. I was assigned to give guys massages which made $20, I could give blowjobs which got me an extra $50, and I could sleep with a customer to make $200. If I made less than $100 a day I would be punished. I and some other girls got angry and demanded to leave, some of us got beaten and I was told that we had no passport and were on some Visa, and the police don't care for those on Visa and would just deport me. I didn't speak the language or know the way around this complex city. Here's the catch, Victor said he knows where I live and I didn't want to get deported so that they wouldn't harm my mother and my daughter whom I cared so much about. I was stuck in the end. There was no Polish embassy, there was no Police who cared, and I couldn't go back home to my family to avoid their harm and I had no way to contact them, I tried to get into contact with the Polish police but they just called me a *****."

Weronika was 22, she was from Warsaw, and came to Japan in 2004, she left in 2008 when Victor was arrested. She left with permanent injuries such as a crooked eye and a deformed ear, two of her partner girls she had gone there with had been long killed by individuals that haven't yet been found, and all in Japan a modern first world country. There are millions of human trafficked girls and even men, and thousands of them are Eastern European with a significant number being Polish. So what is to be said of so little that is being done in terms of government and law, and so little social support these people gain to have their rights fully abolished and to be exploited as slaves, since they are slaves.

There is also much trafficking that goes on in Poland: gvnet.com/humantrafficking/Poland.htm

There are thousands of such heartbreaking tales. The problem is the demand, the Johns who create the demand and pay the money for what is essentially rape. When caught and arrested the punishment needs to be severe and permanent. This surely would deter these perverts and go a long way to curbing this atrocity of a business.

Many polish women are involved in direct or indirect prostitution.Hower much less than Ukrainki who tend to engage in this stuff in 50% or more in young ages and usually this is the way they buid their career.

Keep in mind that only a small percentage of prostitution is coerced. Trafficking automatically makes you think of prostitution, but the majority of those trafficked aren't working in the sex industry.

If you're interested, take a look at La Strada. They're good people and incredibly objective. They have shelters that directly help trafficked people, and also provide some of the best research available on the situation.

It is more difficult to generate sympathy for girls who knowingly and willingly go into prostitution.
The real offense is these front companies that run 'placement services' promising young Eastern girls jobs and a new life in a new land only to end up taking them prisoner and forcing them into brutal sexual slavery.

I saw a movie about this a few years ago -a kind of mocumentary retelling of a true story- and it truly moved me to tears. And it takes a lot to get to me.

I always tell girls looking at such services in hope of a better life to be very, very careful.

The uncivilized scum who run these businesses need to be killed when caught.
This is one place (only?) that the Muslim nations have it all over us. Crime in those places is virtually non-existent because of their societal intolerance for it and the severe punishments they dole out are the deterrent. We need to be more like them when it comes to this stuff especially.

You shouldn't have sympathy for them, it's a job, and a well paying one at that.

Yup, but no one cares that much. And cross border crimes are difficult to prosecute. Governments are more worried about "designer drugs" than having to deal with violent criminals.

Ever heard of harems? It's rich males version of brothel but it's still a brothel.

Some Muslims prefer young male prostitutes. Google "baha bazi" or "dancing boys of Afghanistan"

Governments are more worried about "designer drugs" than having to deal with violent criminals.

Because it's much easier and profitable to give law abiding citizens speeding tickets than arrest those involved in organized crime: they are armed and dangerous.

There was no Polish embassy

The young mother who abandoned her 2-year-old to be a kurwa for the Yakuza and found the job too difficult and unprofitable is full of it:

The problem is the demand, the Johns who create the demand and pay the money

Sweden has decided to legally persecute only Johns and decriminalize women involved.
It is, as I understood, for now the most efficient way to fight human trafficking.
Reduced demand (with even prison as a punishment ) proved to be really bad for the street prostitution (street prostitution reduced up to 80%, somebody should check this..)

You shouldn't have sympathy for them, it's a job, and a well paying one at that.

researches i saw stated that most of them have severe existential problems, minority is in that because they really like their jobs (on global level, there are differences of course).

Their life stories are really sad.
Of course, there are examples that don't provoke any sympathies..

Rock on here has stated that there are many Ukrainian trafficked girls in Turkey and the Balkans, clearly the lack of sovereign on the issue is troubling.

Basic economics tells us that in order to reduce the profitability -and therefore the appeal- we need to reduce either the supply or the demand.

minority is in that because they really like their jobs ....

Their life stories are really sad.

This is true too. Some poor girls see no other place to turn. And we haven't even gotten into where families sell their daughters into this terrible trade...

So what do the majority do? Is there a breakdown?
I did assume most human trafficking was about the sex trade but I know nothing about it.

They don't like their jobs, they do it because the money is good. Those kids flipping burgers don't exactly like their jobs either :)

So what do they do?

Laborers and to a lesser extent, beggars.

Laborers

I had similar ideas to yours, then I had to do some work on prostitution and facts were convincing....
Starting point is usually existential problem, like with those who are flipping burgers, but they are usually coming from countries which are not allowing you even physical survival with that kind of job (150 euro per month?).

"Sexual trafficking includes coercing a migrant into a sexual act as a condition of allowing or arranging the migration. Sexual trafficking uses physical coercion, deception and bondage incurred through forced debt. Trafficked women and children, for instance, are often promised work in the domestic or service industry, but instead are usually taken to brothels where their passports and other identification papers are confiscated. They may be beaten or locked up and promised their freedom only after earning – through prostitution – their purchase price, as well as their travel and visa costs.

The main motive of a woman (in some cases an underage girl) to accept an offer from a trafficker is better financial opportunities for herself or her family. In many cases traffickers initially offer ‘legitimate’ work or the promise of an opportunity to study. The main types of work offered are in the catering and hotel industry, in bars and clubs, modeling contracts, or au pair work. Traffickers sometimes use offers of marriage, threats, intimidation and kidnapping as means of obtaining victims. In the majority of cases, the women end up in prostitution. Also some (migrating) prostitutes become victims of human trafficking. Some women know they will be working as prostitutes, but they have an inaccurate view of the circumstances and the conditions of the work in their country of destination."

it's from wiki, i don't have here those researches :S

After that, there is no way back.

In some countries situation is less problematic, so in a bigger percentage women who are doing that are in that just for money like you think, so you are right there...

unfortunately on global level, those women constitute a minority

That doesn't explain Czech, Slovak, Polish, Dutch, German, and Australian women who take up prostitution.

The evil is trafficking, not the prostitution.

I didn't say it does. I clearly made a difference between those who are forced this or that way into this, and the others you are talking about who had a choice.

Trafficking ends often in prostitution, so there is causal relation between two.

You had certain prostitution type in mind, I had the most frequent type, what George 4 digits was posting about.

Motives of women you are mentioning are for debate. Burgers are applicable and maybe desirable there ;)

Is this OK for you now?

Most choose that.Work as a cleaner means 6 euro per hour, work as prostitute is 50 euro in one hour.Girls working in the ass bars make about 3000 euro per month and escorts about 6000 per month.I am not sure about strippers.Cleaning ladies make maximum 1200 euro per month with very hard work.

In the strip, ass bar environment lots of Ukrainian,Russian girls make precious connections which advance their career often later to another level while poor Polki stay cleaners.Just joking.

That doesn't explain Czech, Slovak, Polish, Dutch, German, and Australian women who take up prostitution.

The evil is trafficking, not the prostitution.

Jewish traffickers have had considerable presence in European nations for over a century:

WHITE SLAVERY (excerpted from "The Jewish Women's Archive"):

An extension of the prostitution which spread throughout the world in the nineteenth century, following the massive emigration to the New World, white slavery was also a result of the growing poverty of European women in the age of industrialization.

The silence was broken for the first time in England by Josephine Butler (1828-1906) [whose] organization set up national committees to work against white slavery in the capitals of Europe, Egypt, Canada, the United States, South America and South Africa.

wa.org/encyclopedia/article/white-slavery

While not only Jews traffic women, many 'Eastern European' traffickers ("Russian Mafia") are Jews - as are some trafficked 'Eastern European' women.

The real offense is these front companies that run 'placement services' promising young Eastern girls jobs and a new life in a new land only to end up taking them prisoner and forcing them into brutal sexual slavery.

The same MO used a century ago: "To entice their victims, Jewish sex traffickers used newspaper advertisements for jobs, the promise of an immigration certificate and marriage proposals, all the while taking advantage of the parents' naiveté and poverty".

The evil is trafficking, not the prostitution.

Watch this film "TAKEN" it shows how dangerous, it could be out there, for young women. The governments have a responsibility, to inform young vulnerable women of the dangers of these job adverts, nothing is for free.

Watch this film

Good movie about a horrible topic.
And real life often doesn't have happy endings:

a grim statistic: if a victim is not rescued within 96 hours, chances are she will never be found.

There are millions of human trafficked girls and even men, and thousands of them are Eastern European with a significant number being Polish.

That may be true, but this particular case has nothing to do with human trafficking. It's about a stupid chick who got a bad business deal. I don't feel one bit sorry about her.

People I feel sorry about are kids who put a lot of time, effort and hopes into more, shall we call them clean, ways. They are called students who take various kinds of loans, get their degrees, often post graduate, and they end up living on basic subsistence level. If they can get a job at all. Now, that's real human trafficking.

If you weren't American perhaps you would have understood that. Instead you are seeing things, such as the alleged praise of socialism in my post. And that despite the fact that the US has made some of the largest socialist moves in financing gangsters and bums. Now, that's socialism.

Only the title of the tread is abut human trafficking. The attached quote is about a business that went sour. It happened to have been a prostitution business. Don't be such a socialist. Business is business and sometimes it don't go so well.
