Poland's fight against paedophilia

Poland is to become the first EU country to impose chemical castration on convicted paedophiles.

Legislation is being pushed through the country's parliament to make the procedure compulsory for all sex criminals who pose a risk to others.

The method involves giving convicted paedophiles drugs which take away their sexual urges.

Calls for the introduction of chemical castration have arisen following a recent incest case that shocked the country.

In a story reminiscent of that of Josef Fritzl, a 45-year-old man was arrested in Poland a fortnight ago accused of fathering two children by his young daughter.

What do you think about this legislation?

Bless You All!

It seems that chemical castration comes after the crime. When it is too late.

Those who are driven to paedophilia will still commit the crime.

And what good is castration when these people should be in prison

Or are we now saying that chemical castration is now the sentence and we won't bother with prison.

This reminded me of the story in USA when one pedophile asked to be chemically castrated because he knew he'll reoffend (sp?) on leaving the prison but was told by the court - NO.

I don't think any country come with a successful solution yet. They are human beings but they are not preferable neighbors to anyone; let’s not kidd yourself. Letting them go loose after finishing prison term and all those obligatory registration lists are not working.

If it were done on voluntary base I would not have a problem with this. Unless there is a better solution.

I think this would be a good idea that there should be no prison but casteration... that would be a good punishment....

Prison is a punishment for the crime. Castration is prevention against future crimes.

Prison is a punishment for the crime

This is my point.

Castration is prevention against future crimes.

So now we pre-judge people.

Let's chop the hands off burglars. Just in case !

no, let the paedophile do it again and again waiting for his resocialization

McCoy,

My point is that this new legislation makes no sense.

To be punished twice for the same crime makes a mockery of law.

Lock 'em up and that's that.

We don't have the death penalty, so the bullet is not an option.

it's prevention like Bzibzioh wrote. one pedophile can destroy several people's lifes. and you can't stop pedophile from being pedophile. after being inprisoned he will walk free and do what's in his nature again and again.

Rather post-judge. They already showed as what they are up to. No need to guess.

and you can't stop pedophile from being pedophile.

I've already said as much.

Also, I never said that they should be released from prison.

They should be in a secure unit. For life.

That would be very good. Although to expensive for any country to incarcerate (sp?) so many.

Castration is prevention against future crimes.

No it isn't. It simply removes one possible tool used to commit crime. It does not remove the urge to commit crime and it does not remove access to other tools which can be used to commit crime.

They should get arm and tongue castration as well.

How about a lobotomy?

Lobotomy has been abandoned in the last 40 years.

I bet the EU human rights regulations will have something to say about it. I personally think life time incarceration is more appropriate.

I bet you the catholic church in poland will be sweating about this.

So paedophiles will be easily recognizable because they will have a high pitched voice.

How exactly do you know that? Most pedophiles are great examples of shyness towards the opposite sex and complexes going horribly wrong. The whole idea of chemical castration is just pure populism on Tusk's side. It's definitely not a remedy to the problems of pedophilia.

I agree. But could we prevent everything? That's no realistic. I'm saying if the offender who is aware of his urges asks for a chemical castration he should be allowed to do this.

The whole "chemical castration" thing is a total nonsense. It doesn't work. There should be a normal castration for pervs.
