Hundreds of Chileans start to learn Polish to meet the Pope in Krakow

Currently more than 600 chileans are learning polish to participate of the Catholic World Youth Day, in Krakow at July, and meet with Pope Francis.

The basic course offered by the Polish embassy at Santiago usually had around 25 to 30 students per semester, but this year the demand raised due to the fact that a thousand of chileans are expected to fly 12000 km to participate in the event.

Polish is one of the hardest languages of the world. [...] Marcelo Farias, a 21 years old student, had been planning his trip for months to Poland, a country with 38 million people. The polish learning, he says, will enrich his experience. "I Don't want to communicate only with gestures. I want to learn their culture and their faith"

The course is given by the teachers Thomas Sturm, chilean, and Ewelina Poleszak, polish.

Nice to know that the World Youth Day at Krakow is pushing so many people to learn more about Poland and Polish. If Chile, a very small nation of 18 million people, have 600 students wanting to learn polish due to the Pope, i cannot imagine others in South America (an entire catholic continent) are willing to do the same.

3 Years ago the World Youth Day at Brazil had 3.7 million participants (the second biggest christian gathering in history, just before the 5 million at the World Youth day of Philippines) and brought revenues to the city even bigger than the traditional carnival. This year it happens in Poland for the second time.

It's a great event and good to see such interest among so many nations and even to such extent as to be learning host country's language, it much appreciated since many nationalities ignore our language and want us to speak to them in their language in our country, examples are Germans and English or Americans, but Chileans I see are taught good manners and respect I see, very good!

Poland just can`t avoid upload of new migrants. One refuse them on the door and they coming over the window, always founding the way in. At least these are Christians.

They are not immigrants Crow, they are going just for a short period (giving the standards of living, it is very unlikely that someone would exchange Chile for Poland for no reason).

I do not think they will want to stay in Poland, it is a religious gathering for them, a big occasion.

when i think, i think you are right. One can`t compare Arabs and Chilean native Indians. i regard Indians to have more dignity. Indians have more loyalty to their roots and they would hardly replace Chile with Europe.

South Americans have USA to settle in if they want to break out in the first place, Poland is not attractive to them, it is so distant for them and so different that I do not think even one of them will be hoping to remain after the festival, unless just to have a holiday. They are so devoted to Christianity and the new pope being South American that they will follow him to the ends of earth, they help keep Christianity stronger, much stronger. Arabs have constant unrest in their countries and there are so many of them that it is no wonder they branch out elsewhere, not to mention like Jews Arabs have been mostly nomadic people.

Nothing wrong with legal immigrants Crow, they have always integrated nicely with a one notable exception. Those are Christians - no problem.

well, new Pope is generally loved by all Christians. We Serbians have great respect for him because he prevented Croats to beatify and declare saint one of their `holly people` who were involved in Nazi crimes over Serbians. This is great satisfaction to innocent Serbian victims, more then 700.000 woman, man and children who died in genocide during WWII. So, we now live in times where Serbs love Pope and Croats hate him.

As for Chileans, yes, they are good and devoted Christians.

legal or illegal its all the same if it goes as massive invasion. Sure, i see that this issue with Chileans aren`t about it. In fact, i found this to be lovely

Chileans are not native Americans lol, they're mostly made up of Spanish heritage. Mostly likely white Chileans or mestizo Chileans. Don't assume they're native, because then they wouldn't be Catholic.

I'm Colombian, not Chilean, but I know for sure they're not native.
