My wedding gift - what to do now? The estimated value of a gift for a bride in Poland.

I told my friends LAST YEAR ( 10/2014) while sitting in their living room in Poznan, that my wedding gift for their daughter's wedding will be the wedding cake. When i went in April of THIS year, we were supposed to discuss and I pay for the cake then. BUT, due to them priortizing the celebration of name day of the future in laws in wroclaw, they refused to take the time to discuss the cake or the price, kept saying "plenty of time" . since i returned home, i kept sending emails asking for the cake price so i could budget it in. they kept ignoring the emails and on may 25th said "plenty of time "again. Finally, the middle daughter said she thinks the cake will be 1100 zlotys. i said ok.... now how to actually pay... so i figured atm card that i left behind would be the answer ; just they failed to receive the card and it was returned to bank; so that cant work , after several emails yelling back and forth , we did not speak since late may. i just said , i give up, if u cant tell me the name of the bakery for me to pay over phone with credit card.... i am done with this issue.

Now today , july 6, i get an email saying.... well how are you, and the cake cost 600 US dollars , since you agreed to pay. and here is an invite by email. So, i just left Poland in may and have a trip for october pre-planned , so going back in august is NOT an option.. That was the point of offering to pay for the cake, BUT 600 US dollars??? Is that reasonable at this point when the weeding is in aug 21?

600 US dollars would have been fine for knowing a YEAR in advance, not two months in advance... who does that?? and, who goes to europe on an emailed invitation anyway??

So, the question is......suck it up and pay and resent them like ur own family, . or just ignore them and ,,,,,, be done with the entire family...

also, , i dont like tradition, rituals, formality, church, dancing, dress up, makeup, heels or dresses , I HATE smokers and cannot stay up past midnight,,, so having me at ur wedding is a mistake anyway. the wedding cake was my way out of this event... which i have repeatedly said for the past year.... i dont even go to wedding here.

Yes, they're taking the **** and have ordered the most expensive because a foreigner is paying. Yes, you're daft for not agreeing a limit.

Just pay them the 1100 and cease all contact with these people.

Having said that, this sounds like the classic scam - give you a bill for 600USD (over 2000zl!!!) to contribute to the cost of their wedding.

Give nothing, and certainly not 1100zl.

i am going to marry a very nice and amazing lady from Warsaw, honestly i dont know what is the average value of wedding gift shall i bring to her, i dont want to under estimate or over estimate, so can somebody help me and tell me the average value of wedding gift to the bride in Warsaw?

I would say not less than your 6-monthly wages or the equivalent of a brand new VW golf in gold. ;-)

haha , please be reasonable, seruisoly , it should be arround 200 or 3000 dollar for instance plus or minus, i really dont know, i am not from poland

You're marrying her, you have no obligation to give her a gift at all.
