POLISH YOUTH compared to the youth in other Western countries?

How would you compare Polish youth these days to say youth in other western EU states and even N. America?
For example, who abuses more drugs and alcohol? Who's more promiscuous?? Poland has a tradition of string family values. Is this true or a myth?

Discuss.

Oh come on now. We all know that Poland is just generally better than most countries. I am sure that they are MUCH better at abusing drugs alcohol and being promiscuous. I am also sure there is a study somewhere to prove this.

P.S. I am just joking...not a single drop of seriousness of malice in my words ;)

After all...everyone knows that Canadians are the biggest alcoholics and drug abusers in the world....

P.S. Joking again...it is really the Brits.

I'm sure that you'll find the relevant data via a google search.

Is this true or a myth?

Families here seem no different to any others.

I feel that there is a great difference between my generation and the youth of today.

A very stupid question.

Typical Polak attitude. Who pissed in your cornflakes?

Can't you really see the stupidity of your question? Let me enlighten you: the only thing that all Polish youth have in common are nationality and young age. In all other respects they present various features, they come from differents backgrounds, have different attitudes and lifestyles. Some are begging for money for drugs on train stations, others have never seen drugs in their lives. Some find a new partner in a disco and have sex with them in the loo every Saturday, and some stay virgins until marriage. In some backgrounds some of these behaviours are considered normal, in some - unacceptable. So asking about Polish youth as a whole is stupid.

I would say that people my age (24) here in Poland are much more respectful than their British counterparts. I don't think drug abuse is too much of a problem here at all with students sometimes smoking weed. People here seem to drink much more than we do in Britain but they seem to know how to behave once intoxicated. As for promiscuity the French beat us all hands down and maybe even zee Germans. Most of the Polish girls i've spent time with have respect for themselves and their bodies with only not so nice ones being utter sluts. I don't think you can judge an entire nation and compare them to other entire nations but in my experience young people in Poland are much better behaved. I've never once seen a fight in the city centre after a night out but its almost guaranteed if you go drinking in any British town or city,

That's because all of the good looking Polish guys are still in Poland and they have to make do with something "exotic" ;-)

Switezianka is right. There are the same changes, the same pressures as anywhere. And in ant case, it's hard to generalise about the population of a modern nation of 40m people.

Here in the cities, I don't see much difference to anywhere else. In small towns though (and a lot of people here live in small towns) young people have less scope for misbehaviour, a closer support network and the influence of the Church.

Though that is changing.

I know the Canadian youth looooooove pot. They did a survey last summer and Canadians smoke more pot than people in Amsterdam, for example. The most in the western world. I was shocked but not surprised. My parents told me that back in the old days nobody really smoked weed in Poland. Also, Spain has the highest rate of cocaine use in Europe. Poland never seems to make it on these lists. Anyways I've always associated Poland with more alcohol abuse than actual drug (snort, snort) abuse (although alcohol is technically a drug).

Well according to surveys:
-polish youth is in one of the top in underage alcohol comsumption
-drug usage is lesser than in other western countries but still its quite huge %
-avarage sex initiation is about 18-19 for girls and 17 for boys. according to my observation most teenagers prefer stable relationships and being promiciouos is not always widely accepted by teens among themselves (u can be bullied sometimes if there is a gossip u r promiciouos one).

Smoking is really strong in Poland everywhere you go there. Also many buildings smell of urine in Poland.

Gotta love those 'string' family values ;) ;)

Polish youth are basically the same as any other. They just speak a different language.

In Poland you see common hardcore Slavs(shaved heads, fat necks etc),the same style I have seen only here in Morava and among serbian youth. Also Ukranians in Donetsk seem to prefer this appearance.Generally in slavic countries you feel excellent surrounded by so many beautiful faces.(and slavic girls with all this gold on them and their coloured hair and heavy make-up,these smooth legs what a pleasure).

shaved heads

More and more Polish men prefer medium/longer hair. I've seen a significant change in only a few years.

The truth is that Poles get more and more Westernised.

Less "old fashioned" values - the "West" is seen as some evil cesspit where we are devoid of any values or morals! The Sodom and Gomorrah and of modern times :D

We really aren't too different, but I guess any mature person will acknowledge that much.

They aren't as disruptive in class as the average UK kids - and I'm talking about normal schools, not language schools.

This will inevitably change as the govt follows its plan of dumbing down education in the international "race to the bottom".

Do you have any figures or statistics to back up your claim? I'm willing to bet there's not much of a difference.

This will inevitably change as the govt follows its plan of dumbing down education in the international "race to the bottom".

In that case, I've won the race!

;P

Oh no! Why did this have to rhyme?

what do you mean by westernised?

What language are we a Polish lady and a Russian speaking right now?
What movies have you seen lately? Name them honestly... :)
You know what coke is, don't you? Do you think an average American knows what Zubrowka or Russian Kvas is? I don't think so...

Many of Slavs (quite ironically being americanophobes at the same time) use more American than Slavic things in a daily life.
This is what "westernization" is from my perspective.
One could say "you're free to choose... it's democratic..." but in fact it's not. When money tells you what to do, define your choice and tastes via media there's nothing democratic about it.

The truth is that Poles get more and more Westernised.

Shwedi should preserve their culture too. There are probably no nations in Europe which adopted American culture more than Norden in general.
