How safe is the city of Bydgoszcz?

To whom it may concern,

I am about to move to Bydgoszcz very shortly. I've never thought that Bydgoszcz would be a dangerous city in Poland., but when looking for apartments or houses in Bydgoszcz, I always get questions such as would you like to have flat/house guarded?or do you want a secure parking?. Could anyone currently living in Bydgoszcz inform me about this and give me some advice about the neighborhoods? Thanks, pete

Check google search resutls for: najlepsze dzielnice do mieszkania w bydgoszczy
Use google translate if necessary.

It's a standard question, do not worry. Many people want to feel safer by subscribing to monitoring from a security agency, that's all. It is not necessary, but you might want it, hence the question when moving in. If you have unsafe doors or locks, have valuables inside - then you might think of it, just like anywhere else.

It's not any more 'unsafe' than any other city of similar size in PL. And like any other city in the world, it has it's 'nice' and 'not so nice' areas... As you do not mention where you will be moving from, it's impossible to give a comparison...

Thanks Jardinero. I don't know much about the different neighborhoods or districts in Bydgoszcz. Could you please tell me what are the nice and not so nice ones?

Thanks,
Peter

Posted a reply on your other thread ;-)
Parts of Szwederowo and Fordon are not too nice. But other than that, it really all depends on what you are looking for: peace & convenience with schools, etc (if with a family) or more 'urban action' (if single and looking to socialise)... Overall, Bydgoszcz is a nice, liveable city for its size, with lots of green spaces, Myślęcinek, Old Town, entertainment, student population, etc. The closer to city centre, the more action. You need not be obsessed with the 'unsafe' as long as you do not do anything silly (same goes for any other city/country) - once you're on ground there, I'm sure you will be able to find an area that best fits your needs.... since you are not familiar with the city, personally I would initially look for something closer to work...

Thank you very much. Since I have a 5 years old son, my plan was to stay initially not to far away from downtown, so I am close to everything, I guess.... Do you know where I can get a map of Bydgoszcz showing the districts or neighborhoods?

Thanks again,
Peter

How do foreigners feel living in Bydgoszcz?

Are there lot of foreigners living in Bydgoszcz? When I was traveling in Warsaw/Gdansk, there were people with several nationalities and I didn't feel "different".
