how to handle this situation and eventually some of them shut down completely and the rest starts acting like their boyfriends.
What kind of experiences have you made?

It sounds like you are basing this whole debate on one experience you had and taring the whole coutry with the same brush!?
Wake up! Poland is the party capital of Europe. This is a well known fact. Have you been to a Polish wedding? Barn dance? City night club? They have the hottest women! The wildest parties! The heaviest fights! The craziest party games! Are we talking about the same country?!

When I lived in Poland I came to the conclusion that it's really hard to find people to have fun with.

GEE Who cares????

Freebird, I believe you wrong, it's 83.67% of Polish people NOT 80%. Please better on-look this next time.

Maybe 80% can not, but the remaining 20% make up for it! :)

Freebird, maybe you are not lucky enough to get into this fun loving circle or you are a sour puss face yourself.

Those 20% certainly make up for it. However, I can see why the OP would think so. Quite a few Poles have turned boredom into an art form.

its a different civilisation and you are not able to grasp it, find your inner self

I grasp it very well. I passed your various tests, remember? :) Can I reel out more bait to you? :)

Sorry, the Polish parties I've been to have been dismal affairs though I know it can be different.

80% of Polish people are boring or can't party, why???

I think it's actually 79,2 per cent, but that's just a minor detail :) Anyway, I think it depends on the person. I've had parties where there were Polish ppl going out of their heads for craziness: dancing, jumping around, simply having fun. Then again, I've had also parties where the Poles just sit in the kitchen talking to each other and drinking themselves to oblivion. What I did notice mainly though is that they, with very few exceptions, always cling together. They very rarely mingle with other ppl if there are multiple nationalities together at one party. If there is just one or two Poles at a multinational party, then it is ok and they talk to others as well, but as soon as there are three or more they always stick together. I wouldn't say this is because of being boring, but more out of insecurity or shyness; about the level of English perhaps. Sometimes I make an effort and introduce them to other ppl and then usually it's ok after a while, so my bet would be that they're just shy or insecure.

M-G (never underestimate insecurity about the level of English at multinational parties)

You know, the statement "it depends on the person" is a definitive answer to about 80 per cent of the threads and questions asked on this forum. Would save a lot of traffic if it were to be treated as the definitive answer anyway :)

Some talk about the most trivial of crap. Some are just know it alls and others just sit around with prune faces. Hardly a riveting mix! Thank God things pick up when the vodka kicks in.

There is no such thing as 'being bored' just 'being boring'.

It's a party, you're supposed to talk about crap at parties :) You're not gonna discuss world crises at parties :) At parties you talk generally nonsense and trying to score that hot chick at the far end of the room :))

Fun is very personal, that's true. I guess we are not invited to the best Polish parties as native speakers ;) ;) Well, that's what my Polish wife said, hehehe

The inner self is on the run but he knows he must teach tomorrow morning so he'll come back round :)

I just say it as a wind-up, Ironside. I get on very well with quite a few Poles and drinking with them would be a pleasure. I don't judge it by nationality but by character. Many Poles bring some smart commentary to the table.

Oh yeah, for sure! They only wanna hear the good things, the ego flattering stuff. I just leave when an argument starts after too much vodka. It gets ridiculous.
