"Quiet Hero" - a book on Rita Cosby's Polish father and Polish survivors of Nazism and Communism, is a very interesting book.

Journalist Rita Cosby does a good job bringing to light the suffering that Poles went through under Nazism and Soviet Communism, that's been rarely heard in the mainstream media until recently.

Rita also does a good job discussing America's contributions to the world and how she appreciate's being an American, since freedom and America's sacrifices should never be taken for granted.

[Moved from]: Rita Cosby QUIET HERO: SECRETS FROM MY FATHER'S PAST

Rita Cosby's Book Quiet Hero: Secrets From My Father's Past picked as bestseller by the New York Times . She uncovered a story of heroism and courage in her own family, detailing her father's youth as a Polish Resistance fighter who battled the Nazis in World War II. Senator John McCain called it, "a loving, poignant tribute to her P.O.W. father and freedom." Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said it's "a beautiful tribute to the strength of the human spirit." Lech Walesa, former President of Poland, said of Cosby's father, "One of Poland's great treasures has now been found."

Rita Cosby

Too bad she shames her father by serving a reactionary news network that represents the antithesis of the progressivism that the Polish nation stands for.

Well she points out that her father was a Pole and not a Jew like all American media is focused on or believes Poland is where they all come from.

"One of Poland's great treasures has now been found."

Good for Rita.

She has been on many TV and radio shows talking about her book and her father.

She seems to have a lot of friends in the media and not only talks to them as a guest but occasionally fills in for them from time to time talking about her "Quiet Hero" book.

She fills in occasionally as the radio host for Steve Malzberg's show. This past Memorial day she was filling in for Malzberg and dedicated at least a half hour on her book. She even called her father while she was hosting Malzberg's radio show. She is good at articulating American patriotism in conjunction with what her father went through. She and her father are thankful for America's help in getting her father out of Nazi German territory.

I have heard Rita talk about "Quiet Hero" while filling in for other radio hosts like Lou Dobbs. I like guys like Steve Malzberg and Lou Dobbs. They're good American patriots in my opinion.

Harry, you wouldn't be yourself if you didn't chime in with another anti-Polish verbal fart. Can Americans call Kościuszko or Pułaski American heroes? Yes, they can and they do. The same logic applies to Merian C. Copper, who was deservedly awarded the Polish Order of Virtuti Militari.

another anti-Polish verbal fart.

How is it 'anti-Polish' to point out that Cooper was English-American?

I do wonder how you get through the day given how often you see anti-Polish things.

Can Americans call Kościuszko or Pułaski American heroes? Yes, they can and they do.

Both those men were American citizens.

The same logic applies to Merian C. Copper, who was deservedly awarded the Polish Order of Virtuti Militari.

I'm sorry, I was unaware that being awarded the Virtuti Militari made a person Polish.

Anyway, Merian C. Cooper: a true English-American hero and hero to Poles, it's good that his story is finally getting the attention it deserves.

Merian C. Cooper in Polish uniform

Why shouldn't we call him a Polish hero, considering that he fought as a Polish soldier in Poland?

Was he Polish? That is a serious question, and one which I genuinely do not know the answer to.

As far as I am aware, he was not a Polish citizen and had no Polish ancestry. If he was not Polish, we can’t call him Polish. He was most certainly a hero to Poles and we should describe him as that. But to call him a Polish hero would be like describing the famed airmen of 303 squadron as British heroes, i.e. completely wrong.

Why wrong? To us, Poles, they were Polish heroes, while the British had every right to call them British heroes - I would perceive it as a honorific. The Flying Tigers were Chinese heroes as well. And completely regardless of their subsequent accepting the citizenship or not, de Lafayette, von Steuben, Kosciuszko and Pulaski can completely naturally be called American heroes.

No, to the British they were also Polish heroes, or to put it another way, they were Polish heroes to the British. Some of them became British later but they were Polish heroes. The fact that the people we talk about were not from the nation whose forces they fought in is one of the things that sets them above the citizens of that nation.

This Link here below is to an article about this great story published in Nowy Dziennik ( in Polish ). It contains great photos of Cooper and the squadron and a video describing the heroic story.

dziennik.com/wiadomosci/artykul/powstanie-film-o-szwadronie-kosciuszki

Consulate General of Poland in Los Angeles

Thursday.

Here's an amazing story of an American pilot Merian C. Cooper who chose to repay America's debt to the Polish heroes: Tadeusz Kosciuszko, Casimir Pulaski, and others, who voluntarily risked their lives fighting for America's freedom in our Revolutionary War. After WWI, Cooper, along with seven of his fellow fighter pilots moved to Poland in 1919 and formed a volunteer fighter pilot

squadron for Poland. They flew over 250 combat missions in the one-and-a-half-year war and had a dramatic impact on the final decisive battle of the war, called "The Miracle on the Vistula River". Cooper and several other American pilots received Poland's highest military honor the "Militari Virtuti" medal.

Questions for Forum readers regarding Merian C. Cooper ... His place in Polish History as a Hero of Poland ... And how much enthusiasm for a Hollywood movie about this great story likely exists in Poland and Polish-American Community:

1. Would you rate Cooper as one of the greatest foreign heroes of Poland? Is he the greatest foreign hero of Poland?

2. If not ... what foreign heroes of Poland would rank higher than Cooper?

3. Is Cooper the greatest American foreign hero of Poland? If not ... who is?

4. Do you feel that Cooper succeeded in repaying America's debt to Kosciuszko and Pulaski for their heroic volunteer service in our American War of Independance?

5. Is Cooper as great a hero of Poland as Kosciuszko and Pulaski are of America? Are there monuments and statues and memorials to Cooper in Poland? Are Polish students taught about Cooper in school ... as American students learn about Kosciuszko and Pulaski?

6. What percentage of Polonia in America and around the world ... do you believe are even aware of Cooper's heroic volunteer service to Poland ... to repay America's debt to Kosciuszko and Pulaski? What percentage of people in Poland?

7. Would there be great support in Poland and Polish-American community for a Hollywood movie about Cooper's heroic and inspirational service in Poland ... to repay America's debt to Kosciuszko and Pulaski? Would ten percent of people in Poland buy a ticket for the movie? What percent of Polish-American community?

8. How many people know that Cooper became one of the greatest Hollywood producers of the first half of the twentieth century ... producing the original King Kong and over 40 other classic movies... and received a special Oscar in 1953 for his lifetime achievments to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences?

9. Did you know that Cooper visited the Heroic Polish Pilots of The Kosciuszko Squadron of the RAF in England during the "Battle of Britain"? He was a great hero to them ... and they named their squadron in honor of the squadron which Cooper and the other American pilots created. There are photos on the internet showing Cooper with the Polish pilots in England in WWII. Can someone post them on this board? I do not know how to add photos here. The website [illuminateamericasheroes.com] ... contains many of these photos and a video which has over 50 photos in it. Perhaps the photos can be taken from there and posted here.

10. How many know that Cooper re-enlisted in the Air Corps for America in WWII ... at the height of his Hollywood career ... and became the oldest active duty fighter pilot flying combat missions for America in WWII with the famous "Flying Tigers"? He was on the Battleship Missouri to witness the Japanese surrender as a partial reward for his profoundly heroic and honorable service for over 25 years ... including WWI ...Polish-Bolshevk War of 1919-1921 ...WWII.

11. Would you support Hollywood awarding a "Special Heroes Oscar" to Cooper for his uniquely heroic and inspirational true life service to America...Poland...and the world? Would you add your name to a petition drive for a "Special Heroes Oscar"?

12. Should Poland do any of the following to honor Merian C. Cooper? ...name a top fighter jet in their current Kosciuszko Squadron the "Merian C. Cooper"? ... Make him an Honorary Citizen of Poland?...of Warsaw? ...of Warsaw City Council? Statues...plaques around Poland ...like we have for Kosciuszko and Pulaski around America?

Please share your thoughts and feedback and any ideas on how to illuminate this profoundly heroic and inspirational story to current and future generations.

Here is some of the incredible history of Merian C. Cooper and the Kosciuszko Squadron compiled and published in Puls Poloni: Many great photos are included...including Marshall Pilsudski awarding the Virtuti Militari to Cooper and the other pilots at Belvedere Palace in Warsaw in 1921. This inspirational true story is greater than any imaginative fiction.

Gotta love the Polonia - instead of helping to feed starving kids in Poland or providing medicine to sick elderly people, they spend their time writing on the internet in an attempt to get a film made about some random guy.

Oi! Some of us were sending paczki do Polski before people named Dave had even heard of internet trolling :p this was a tradition amongst my generation, and previous generations.

Of course, now that Poland is becoming better-off, and the UK is struggling (especially pensioners) my mum says "Poland can **** off, they can send ME some parcels for a change!" haha :D

No, seriously... I think you meant American Polonia ;) hehe
