Hi everyone,

I will first introduce myself. My name is Anita and I study International Tourism Management & Consultancy at the NHTV (University of Applied Sciences) in Breda, The Netherlands. At this moment I am writing my graduation thesis. The subject of my thesis is "Understanding the motivations of travelers to Westerbork and Auschwitz-Birkenau".

The goal of my thesis is to get more insight in why people nowadays visit these kind of locations.

I am looking for persons who have visited or Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland or the former transit camp Westerbork in The Netherlands. If you have visited one of these camps or both, could you please fill in the following questionnaires? It is really important for my thesis to have as many reactions as possible from people who have been there.

Via the following urls, you can find my questionnaires:

Former concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau (THIS ONE IS IN ENGLISH):

Former concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau (THIS ONE IS IN GERMAN):

Former transit camp Westerbork:

Thanks for your help!! It is really appreciated!

Kind regards,
Anita Nolting

Anita,
If you weren't interested in Auschwitz for your thesis, would you visit the Auschwitz Museum? Why?

Yes I would, but I have to say that I have always been interested in what happened during the Second World War and visited also a camp in The Netherlands. For me it is a kind of showing respect to the victims but also to try to understand a little of everything you already heard in history class etc and out of some curiosity of what happened.

Hiya anita...we met on a UK living history forum a couple of weeks ago :)
Hope you're getting plenty of results as you certainly seem to be casting a wide net for your research.

why people nowadays visit these kind of locations

I visited Treblinka, in remembrance of the many people who had lost their precious lives in the death camp. Sadly, we can't change history. Yet, we may learn from the experiences of others, who had lived before us.
