Does anyone know or ever heard of a Pobra in Russia or Poland? I found some passenger lists on Ellis Island and the peoples names and ages conincide with the age of my great grandparents. I have looked everywhere on the internet for a town or city or region even akin to the name Pobra, Podra....all i get are websites from south america....

Anyone have any clue?
Thank you!

I saw a couple Dobras in the search, for other people. I will have to look that up. Thanks!

No-one surnamed Pobra or Podra in Poland at present, but the root is found in such names as Pobram, Pobran, Pobralski, Podraszka, Podraski and othrrs.

Took a look at ellis island. There is a Jozef Torba - the ship's manifest and not the typed version. Also there are several Proba's.
