Alterations of thread titles - automatic or moderated?

I have noticed that a dozen of my threads have had their titles changed.

One of them - its original title was "It hurts"
polishforums.com/off-topic-lounge-47/beyonc-lip-synched-star-spangled-banner-inauguration-64259/2

And a few others were modified too.

What the f...k? If doesn`t make any sense if we look at the whole content of the mentioned thread. Beyonce lip singing scandal is just a starter, the remaining posts are about sth else. Are mods going to delete the posts which don`t pertain to Beyonce as off-topic, then?????

And it was already in off topic, so why?

Why a user who is not interested in the topic would be required to click on the topic just to find out it's not interesting to him or her?

Exactly. I suppose it is not automatic, but one of the mods is extremely bored and is playing with titles.

Can I say it is utterly stupid without offending anyone???

Not quite. Titles may be changed for a few reasons. The main point is that they are easy to read and easy to find in a search.

Oh, I see. Users clicking on topics are more important than users creating topics. I will remember it. :):):)

Thanks, I didn`t see it before.

So, what have we got here:

For the benefits of all Polish Forums members and visitors we ask you to take your time to create good and relevant titles of your threads. Thread titles are one of the most important elements of quality forum discussions.A good thread title should be unique and precisely reflect the content of the message. the reader should be able to determine what the topic is about by reading a thread title only.

OK, those are the rules.

But I wonder why are they used so selectively? Sticking to certain rules (resulting with changing titles of my threads, even in off topic section) looks odd in comparison to ignoring other rules in the PF.

To sum up, it all sounds very disappointing to me as I am not allowed to start and develop threads as I wish.

I have neglected my own site for a while, I think it is time to get back now.

See you, guys, I am taking a break without asking for suspension. Have fun and take care of my threads. :):):)

One user creates a topic; hundreds or thousands may read it. Who wins? :)

It's been there for about 8 years now.

I spent the last several days going through thousands of topics to make sure the titles are correct. I haven't gone through the Off-topic yet. But now, since Off-topic has become available also to non-logged users, we'll enforce relevant topic titles there too. So you're right that we didn't care too much about topic titles in the Off-topic section in the past, but that's going to change.

To sum up, it all sounds very disappointing to me as I am not allowed to start and develop threads as I wish.

When you create a new thread, you are supposed to be like a reporter. A reporter's goal is to present the content in a logical, relevant, and easy to follow way. Would you read a newspaper that feature titles like: "Funny!", "Weather", "Good one", "Problem", "War", "Winning", "Pitty" etc.? I'm sure you would not. Then put yourself in the position of your readers too. That way everybody will be happy :

I think this is a bad idea - we already saw how certain trolls got very upset when their posts about Israel and Jews got moved to the off-topic section.

Yes, you are right. Indeed, I feel so overwhelmed by hundreds and thousands of accidental readers that I have given up. Nec Hercules contra plures. :):)

Out-of-the-blue sticking to the rules set 8 years ago but ignored so far isn`t a move for a better forum in my opinion.

You deserve real credit for that, indeed.

But...

So you're right that we didn't care too much about topic titles in the Off-topic section in the past, but that's going to change.

...I would be really on cloud nine if you cared for antiPolish trolling in the forum in the same way as you are going to care about topic titles.. :):)

No, I strongly disagree. Setting this rule for posters to be like reporters you constrain the ones who want to be like bloggers from time to time. That was the idea behind these threads of mine like: "It hurts" etc - mock microblogging with versatile light content.

Would you read a newspaper that feature titles like: "Funny!", "Weather", "Good one", "Problem", "War", "Winning", "Pitty" etc.? I'm sure you would not.

I would if they were created by an intelligent person. :):):)

Then put yourself in the position of your readers too.

I care about readers who are frequent visitors to the forum and who know who is who and what is what here. I don`t care about accidental tourists who drop by once a year.

That way everybody will be happy :

No, I am not happy about it. During my previous voluntary suspensions I missed the forum very much and couldn`t wait to rejoin . Now I don`t give a sh..t and the only reason I come round is the need to reproduce some relevant info from my posts here in order to use somewhere else.

PS. I am really appalled by my lack of interest in the forum as it is now. Does it mean I have stopped being young in heart and become an old fogy instead? :(:(:(: It is a completely new situation for me and I still don`t know how to deal with it..... Sorry, guys, I hope things will change for better...

May I ask a question? Would the title of a page being one thing and the content being another altogether have any impact on the way google ranks a page?
