Do Polish workers get cheated on hours?

We moved to US 7 years ago - I started workign for one of the offices in Wroclaw a year before I graduated from Wroclaw University - Law & Adminstration. I was working 12 hours a day - getting paid for 8. Did anything change in this area? Are you getting paid for overtime?

My family never belong to Ocmmunstic party so we have had no connections (if you know what I mean). That's one of the reasons we moved to USA. We wanted to get paid for our work, liem everyone in the civilized world.

Wroclaw is the beatiful city and family that we left behind is being missed every day.

Please - honest responses and no hateful answers pls.

I've heard that happens often; they don't get paid for overtime.

I think it depends on the company and the kind of work they do. I have been teaching English in a few companies here, and that's what they have told me. Some do, some don't. It was the same in the US. It depends on the job.

so what? That is the way people work in Poland these days and by the look of it, you were not working during the communist times anymore;).

My family never belong to Ocmmunstic party so we have had no connections (if you know what I mean). That's one of the reasons we moved to USA. We wanted to get paid for our work, liem everyone in the civilized world.

so that means that half of Poland's population would have to move out because the only available jobs in Poland are very scarce. Poland is a free market and many people own businesses and they work long hours. I hope you are happy working in the US factory;).

It was the same in the US. It depends on the job.

of course it does. Marzenka's thread does not ad up.

Given that she studied law, she may well have been working for a law firm, in which case 12-hour days with no paid overtime are very much the norm.

I work in the accounting Department - 8 hours a day. If i ever do any overtime I get paid for evey minute of my time.

For the guy that said i work for the USA factory - you either need a job or a girlfriend - or BOTH - LOL. Did I say - no hateful responses? Can you even read the message?

What does not add up - you get a good job overseas but you are away from your country. You miss it. If you do not get it you better go back to school.

Maybe they have a system like in US, where there are two types of compensation: one for hourly and one for salaried employees. Also, here, usually hourly employees have to get a permission to work overtime and get compensated for it. Salaried work as much as necessary to get the job done and get paid same amount regardless of their hours.

Just FYI - I was hourly hired working 12 hrs in Poland, getting paid for 8. The discussion is about hourly workers - not salary.

then if you agreed to work for 12 and get paid for 8, that's what you agreed to.
You might check into Poland's labour laws, but aside from looking for another job there might not be much else you can do.

In PL (like many other places) it's a trade-off. Good money, good fringe benefits, long hours; or bad money, few perks short hours.

I can and I am not a guy. I am happy that you get paid for the hours you work.
