Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs?

Without knowing Polish chances are the only job possibilities are a) behind the scenes dealing with kebab preparation b) stuffing people's mailboxes with junk mail or maybe c) passing out flyers on the street.

The chances of finding well-paid work without knowing Polish (and speaking Indian English) are about the same as winning the lottery.

If you are not from an EU nation, it is almost impossible to get a work permit for a part-time job (and it is very very difficult to get a work permit for a full-time job unless you have a unique skill that none of the tens of millions of unemployed people in the EU have). As for how much, here in Warsaw waiters / bar staff earn about 1.25 euro per hour, outside Warsaw that figure is less (sometimes a lot less).

I am expecting to move to Poznan in this September for my MBA in International Business at Poznan University of Economics. I am a Sri Lankan who is Fluent in English yet cant speak Polish.

I have 3 years experience in one of the leading Supermarket chain here in Operations(Super Market floor Management), Projects nd Training & Development.

With these things

1. Will I be able to find any Part time jobs in Poznan and am I eligible to work 20 hours per week (4hrs*5 days)?
2. What will be the average earnings I will be able to get ?
3. What will be the minimum living cost here if I choose to live in University Dorms..?

Basically, not a chance. Your experience is essentially useless on the Polish job market. And without speaking Polish, your options are essentially non-existent. Make you plans on the very safe assumption that you will not find work.


Again, none. You will not be able to earn anything in Poland, so make sure you have plenty of money BEFORE you come.


You'll need about 2000 PLN a month. And a bit more for the first two months. If you have less, look elsewhere. If you don't get a dorm room, it can cost you 3000 PLN a month, or more.


Polish is a very difficult language, and English helps no more than Chinese or Swahili. In the two years you will be here, you will probably be able to learn only very basic Polish. It may not be worth your while to bother learning Polish at all except for a few basic expressions.

As a student you would have work permit for 3 summer months only.

Yes it usually takes min 4 years, but some people learn up to B1/B2 level in 1 year, when studying full time Polish language.

Well, as a person studying at uni of economics in poznan I can tell you they have no idea what theyre talking about. The dorm costs ~250-300pln/month, add to this 50pln/month for monthly mpk ticket, say, 30pln/month for sim card. If you are going to cook at thedorm you shouldnt spend more than 12-15pln per day on food (just like most of e students here). Add say 150pln a month for alcohol (youre going to live in a student community after all). The monthly expenses shouldn't be higher than 900-1000pln a month. As f9r the job, well you might perhaps get one in a call center, any other kind of employments is unlikely, maybe excluding handing leaflets. The min pay isn't lower than 7pln/h and most often it's around 10 for student's job. But you should expect dificulties finding employment.

£ódź is much cheaper when it comes to accomodation
it's not as international as Warsaw though
as for working visa you will only be allowed to work in Poland (but finding a job can prove to be very difficult especially in £ódź)

as for attitudes to Indian people: there is some lingering racism in certain circles of society and you can encounter it on your stay in Poland however most people are friendly or indifferent

1. NO, it is not easy for find any part-time jobs, even for Polish students who speak Polish. Why should an employer go to the trouble of getting a visa for you, when he can get a Polish person with no trouble. As you do not speak Polish, the chances of you getting any jobs are NIL. What jobs could you actually do without speaking the language of the country in which you hope to live? There have been thousands of posts about this on this forum. Read before you post.

2, Than what? Depends on what you are used to living in. Information about accommodation is also on this forum. Be good enough to search for it before you post.

Unlikely. There are very few Indian restaurants in Poland, and those precious few jobs don't go to students. They go to relatives and friends of the owners.


You will not find a job in Poland, so find someplace else to study if you need to earn money to pay for your studies. Poland is not the place for you.

There's no point for you to study in Poland, so the rest of your questions are irrelevant.

Absolutely ok with Dominic: the very few jobs at Indian (or other nationalities) restaurants go to the owners' family and relatives. Also in order to work as waiters/waitresses, Polish language is necessary in Poland (since 99.99% of clients are Polish).

Like Dominic does, I say, if need to finance one's studies with a hypothetical job in Poland (less than 0.01% to find a job), Poland is the wrong place to come to.

Since the big majority of those students won't make a grosz while in Poland, how the hell shall they pay for the studies, for rent, for food and the rest? What about emergencies, like dental needs (last week just to replace a filling that I had lost the day before, I paid ... 237 ZL - not cheap).

It all depends on your ability to undertake any job (we do not know what you are qualified to do) and of course, your greatest barrier will be the ability to speak Polish, which I assume that you do to a good degree.

Otherwise there is no chance, unless you can suggest jobs which you feel you can do better than a native Pole, speaking Polish in Poland.

You will not get a part-time job here. Do not come here unless you have all of the money you need for accommodation, living expenses and tuition for all of your course.

Maybe It's just me. It seams that most/all of these overseas ''students'' are interested in is, jobs, jobs and more jobs, how do they pay for their tuition, accommodation, etc..... I feel as if they all think Poland is some sort of educational paradise. Many others have stated the obvious, don't come here unless you have a big bag of cash to last the distance.

My only advice to you all is do your research before you apply to study here, the same questions being asked over and over again, can I do this, how much is that, enough already.

Just another thought, I'm guessing most if not all of these ''students'' have zero Polish language skills so I assume they are going to study in English, WOW, I would love to be in that room, a Polish, English speaking tutor educating an Indian, English speaking student. Their written English is at best bad to very bad and with the very strong Asian accents even I struggle to understand them sometimes.

What a strange choice of country to choose to study. Is this a case, has been proven many times in the UK, of a ''student'' coming to Europe under the pretence of studying and then just disappearing off the radar and heading to the UK where they most probably want to be.
