I am looking to move to Poland end of this year. I am a software engineer and have 6 years of work experience, having worked in Germany, Belgium and presently in UK.
I was wondering what are the prospects of getting a software job (I need a work permit) and can people suggest me where can I look for one? Salary is not a big issue for me.
I am also a SW Engineer, also with 5 years of experience, also in 3 different countries, and a masters degree... been so far 2 months looking for a job in PL and not even a single interview has came up!!!
Lately I am also thinking of setting up my own firm. I have the expertise, contacts and some money to start up a business. Perhaps Poland can be a good place to do so.
People have idea of how to be self employed in Poland for non-EU people.
It's a good place to get cheap labour, outsourcing to western european and american countries is probably the biggest software development market in here.. students, or just after graduation programming for a penny..

Wehere did you send your applications to ? The reason could be the language. In vast majority of places without fluent Polish you've got no chances at all. You should try only these companies where the working language is English. There are some outsourcing centers like that, especially in KRaków, Wrocław and Tri-city.
Actually, I have exclusively applied to english-speaking job offers within international firms, namely: Accenture, IBM, Google, HP, SII, Sabre, Roche, Nokia-Siemens, and some others not very known.
I don't really get it, probably they are not very eager to hire a non-EU citizen due to the lengthy work-permit procedures???
If it gets no better I will have to think on moving ahead somewhere else, can't be too long without a steady income, it is very disappointing!!!
I am very much interested to b in poland as an IT professional, I workd as an it professional at Malaysia, Japan, UAE right now I m working at my home country. You should try some local Polish firms too like asseco, sygnity or even smaller like smtsoftware. Try to think about it like this: for international firms you are just another candidate, for local smaller firms, you are more valuable asset because of experience and english fluency. But fact is that current envirement is not job looking friendly.
You should also register in some job agency (private). It is for free.

Six years of work experience might mean { } The interest is in a person's direct education/skills, not in how rounded / experienced / capable they are. Oh, and how cheaply they can be hired.
What qualifications do you have. If you don't have sufficient paper quals you'll most likely not make it through the paper sort. Have you clearly identified that salary isn't a big issue? Put it in your cover letter (in a positive way).
What are you direct skills? Software engineering won't be valued. They'll look for Coding Language X, Tools A, B and C.
Have you thought of technical writing in English? That can be a back door into a company. Or testing.
I haven't experienced much external hiring of people with experience -- that's sourced by people already inside. The paper ads are for new grads or people with little experience. There isn't the turn-over of people moving from one company to antoher to move up career ladders that can be more common in the west.
I've already read a lot of posts in this forum about job opportunities and wages etc. and still don't have a good picture about it!...
So, my question is this: Do I have any chance of getting a Java Developer job? I'm Java programmer and webservices certified (SCJP and SCJWS) and have 3 years work experience.
Do I have any chance of getting a Java Developer job?
there are a lot of qualified people out there looking for work in this sector. it will be difficult for you without speaking Polish. like anyone else you have to keep an eye on the market and act when the opportunity arises
Hi, Thanks for your reply. For now I will study in Judge Business School, Univ. of Cambridge for 1 year. But I will be very keen to move to Poland after finishing my studies.
So if anyone of you have contacts with HR companies please mail me. I am seriously looking for job in Poland.
I don't think it'll be hard to get a java developer's job, there are foreign companies here and there that are actually in need of people who have strong english language skills : o
Even I am a Software engineer, presently working for a Software firm in Mumbai, called as Datamatics Global services limited. Even I wish to move to Poland and I wanna know the entire procedure about how to go about the same.
Also is it very difficult to get the work permit??
Also is it very difficult to get the work permit??
I dont think so. If you can manage a decent job here.
If you want to live in Poland the best way would be either to immigrate or choose a subject to study in one of our universities. Perhaps you would like to learn Polish... you can choose to learn it and join in to one of the better universities in pl.
But do you mean to say that i dont stand a chance?? Coz I have 2 yrs of experience and also that I have some global certifications with me. I guess this shud be enuf. Kindly suggest.
You need to try and consult some consultancies then. Not because I dont want to be bothered, far from it. As I said, I welcome you to my country :).
Its not possible to give you a proper guidance here I think. There are many such consultancies now in India who help Indians immigrate to Poland and other European countries. Work permit can be a way too, but most people who I deal with are usually students.
You can search on web, or look into the website of Polish Embassy in India. I suppose to get a work permit you first need a work here in Poland. If your Polish isnt good...the software/IT field can pose much more intense competition for you than it would to an everyday pole.
If you join an international company there shouldn't be a problem with the language - I mean you usually need to know the original language of the country the company is based on. Like Siemens - german or english...
