Salary of a Native Speaker Proofreader in a company in Poland

Hello, does anyone know the average salary of a proofreader in a company in Poland? It's an international company, and they didn't offer me a salary (rather I have to tell them).

Your fees should be based (among other things) on:

What type of text it is: (technical, legal - in these cases your qualifications matter). Is it aimed at other professionals or the general public? Again, in more specialized kinds of text there will be jargon that you might not recognize and you need to have some kind of feedback established at least at the beginning so you can distinguish weird (but established) jargon vs mistakes. Generally clients are unaware of these issues.

What shape it arrives to you in: Does it just need a minor correction here and there or is it a goat rodeo? Is it just language they want you to look at or also style requirements?

What shape do they want it to leave in? Do they want it to be in shape for native speaker readers or is general international crap english good enough?

I'm not that expensive, and my basic rate (for stuff that won't need much work and that's not too specialized or in a field I know a lot about) is 10 zl per page (1800 characters including spaces) after taxes. Difficulties of various kinds add to that. But most of my proofreading is for private and or academic clients and not for corporations.

Type of text: From what I can tell (from the obscure advertisement) the proofreading is of a translation of text for a project pertaining to the EU. Basically, a trained translator translates the text from one EU language to English, and I am supposed to proof read it for mistakes. Not much more information was given.

Education: I've got my degrees in Philosophy (BA and MA). One can argue that I am qualified to proofread academic texts :)

I would be paid off of a monthly salary (plus benefits) but I just want to make sure I'm not asking for too little.

I'd run a mile. These jobs don't go to people off the street, it's all word of mouth stuff, and any professional proofreader would bite someone's hand off for a full time contract.

Mafketis will know better, but I'm pretty sure that any full time jobs doing this will go to people already in the know.

The fulltime contract part sounds weird. I wonder if this is EU funded. I took part in a EC funded project (big mistake) and it was a major bureaucratic nightmare trying to fit their rules into the Polish system.....


Not necessarily. I really don't actively seek out translation or proofreading work, it just comes to me of its own accord (at highly irregular intervals).

Yes, they offered private insurance, free training courses (most likely a language course), annual bonus, lunch vouchers, gym membership. Pretty much the works.

Something is up here. Why would they look abroad for such a person when there's countless English teachers in Poland that would kill for the chance to get such a deal and who are more likely to understand the thought processes of the translator?

Maybe they want some who is youthful and has a full head of hair?

You can start by registering as self employed.

Or they are looking for workers with responsibility and no secret paid agenda on alternative lifestyles.
