RELOCATING TO GDYNIA, Poland - salary question

Hello,

I am working in Athens,Greece and my salary here is 800€.I pay for my house/bills 250-300 € per month.I had an offer for a job in Gdynia/Poland for a known multinational company and the salary is 4500 pln gross.I guess this is about 3200pln net.The company seems to have room for growth and many benefits for its employees.

I am willing to relocate and to leave Greece because of the current situation and because I would like a new experience.Unfortunately,in my current job there is no room for growth.

However,I wonder how life is in Gdynia and if the above salary could be one of the reasons to leave my job and country.

What Smurf was saying is that it is NOT good money. Costs in Poland are not hgh compared with, for example, Germany or the UK, but they're not THAT low, either, that you could be comfortable and save a little on 3,200PLN per month

It all depends.
If you're young and single .. well-educated ... and looking to have some experience on your CV ... and ...
then it might be worth the try
otherwise, not worth the effort and the winters for that salary.

OK, try again, no do not relocate for that awful salary. I'd be insulted if someone offered me such a low wage.

It doesn't work like that. Poland is not a rich country, so you cannot simply get whatever salary.

If you get 800eur net in Athens, then it's 3341PLN and in Gdańsk you will get 3201PLN. You will move to the city with much worse weather and less beautiful than Athens.

Decide yourself weather it has sense by looking at this page:

It's Gdańsk here, because of no data for Gdynia, but it's the same agglomeration, so only apartment prices should be little lower in Gdynia.

About salary. Average for Poland is around 4000PLN gross, for big cities perhaps 5000PLN. Most of people earn less than average.

Greece was much more expensive than Poland few years ago, but now because of the crisis renting and restaurant prices are comparable to Poland. You will pay in Poland less for grocery (in Greece they cost more than in Germany), going out to the pub, restaurant. Public transport is cheaper.

If you're not an programmer then probably the job is some call center. You should decide yourself if it's any better from what you do there in Greece. Any surplus which you theoretically save in Gdynia you will spend for tickets to Greece.

I moved to Warsaw when somebody offered me that much. Although that was 16 years ago and for some reason no tax was deducted from my salary (possibly due to me being paid in cash, dollars to be exact, and the company being less than willing to get me a work permit).

Actually I am something like a call center know with few data analysis but this job is data analyst and the reason why I am not sure of rejecting it is because I think I will get good professional experience for the future.

Then give it a try. You will not be financially worse than in Greece and living in a different country is great experience. Perhaps you can negotiate at least 5000 gross or relocation bonus.

For salaries look at this report: tiny.cc/hays-pdf starting from page 19. Look at Woj. Pomorskie (it's region where Gdynia is). "Najczęściej oferowane" means median. Call Center Agent with foreign language is only 3000 gross. But if you fit into some job from page 21 then pay is much better. You can relate to this report while speaking with your company. It's from 2011, so now it should be little bit higher.

You guys don't make Greek out of me I know what are the salaries.In bigger cities like Warsaw, Gdańsk , Poznań,Kraków it's around 2,500zł netto.In every other city is around 1700zl-1200zl but majority have 1200zł.I would tell you Lemy:Take that job! 3000zł per month nett is good for one guy.Of course if you buy in biedronka market ^^ "I będziesz stał jak górnik" xd

I am planning to relocate to Gdynia. I find this forum and saw many useful post with similar discussion. I have few more questions and would be very helpful for me if this can be answered by members.

1. My office is in Gdynia, is it different from Gdansk?
2. As per Indian standards my salary is above average for an experience of around 9 years as IT / Financial Consultant. Could you please guide me what should I expect (Gross / Net) for this profile and experience in Gdynia?

3. My wife is a software engineer in India, will it be possible for her to get a job in Gdynia?
4. What is cost of living in Gdynia?
- House Rent (1 BHK / 2 BHK)
- Groceries
- Fortnightly visit to near by places (I love traveling and site seings :) )
- Bills (electricity, internet, mobile)

This information will help me in negotiating with my employer.

Well, considering that you have provided no useful information about your skill set, no one can. There are lots and lots of threads on this forum about salary expectations and cost of living, so use the search function to find them.

Gdynia is so beautiful that people have to pay employers for living there ;)
