hey!
I'm a student in the United states and for my polish class, I have to do a presentation on College life in Poland. I was hoping someone can just give me a brief summary.

Do you get to pick your own classes or are they planned out for you?
Is there campus housing- dorms?
Is grading strict?
are there fraternities and sororities?
Is studying strict or are there many parties?
I hope someone can help! thank you

Is grading strict?

grading is very strict... until it's pointed out that the failure rate is too high... and then after the resits everyone passes.

for many folks uni is a place to occupy time and little else. swat before an exam and double swat before and during your thesis/dissertation and that's it.

there is a reason why Polish unis/colleges are not in the world's top 300.

free time is spent either in the pub or at some private forum bitching about the teachers/tutors/whatever.

but what is a uni? university?

yes

and what does swat mean?

it's the same as cramming

swat: is to put all your effort into learning in the day or days before an exam

Is there campus housing- dorms?

yes, every university has dorms near the campus... students usually occupy one room in 2 or 3 people and they rotate every year... people often party there and sometimes study...

Do you get to pick your own classes or are they planned out for you?

the classes are planned out for you based on a schedule for your degree...

university building often are spread all around the city, so sometimes students have to drive, take a bus or a tram to get from one end of a city to another for the class... it's not very convenient...

financial aid, stypendium, is provided and based on good grades or bad economical situation in a family...
