Job opportunities for junior actuary in Poland???

Hello,

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Management and I am currently studying a Master's Degree in Actuarial Science and Finance, which I will hopefully end in September 2016. By ending this Master's Degree I would be able to register in the Spanish Institue of Actuaries.

All my higher education has taken place in Spain, but I am fluent in English and French as well as in Spanish.

I would like to know if anyone could give me some information about the job prospects in the Actuarial/Financial field in Poland, especially in the Warsaw area. I don't have an extended work experience apart from several internships and I don't speak Polish. Would this be a big problem to find a job in this field in Poland?

How much could I expect to earn (more or less) to start?

I'd appreciate any other information you could give me.

Many thanks in advance.

I think not speaking Polish would pretty much preclude you from applying for most jobs tbh.

I would say like the poster above no language makes it very hard. It sounds to me like you would do better in France or Spain.

Fall without speaking Polish and with no work experience it would be very tough for you. I recruit a lot of finance people myself and I am an open minded person but would never bring in someone who could not communicate effectively with his colleagues unless he had special skills.

your best bet would be to try Spanish banking or real estate businesses like Santander and Neinver and do some kind of intern / general work and try and learn Polish in the meantime.

Actuarial profession in Poland is very closed shop - you need to find a good contact in the profession. See if you are able to do that by linkedin or via a Big 4 firm but it will be a hard road for you.

Many thanks for the information! Perhaps it will be easier to find something in Poland after several years of experience elsewhere.

Why don't you look for work in London and take some Polish lessons while you are there?

I actually have a similar question. I am currently a student at the University of Illinois, studying Actuarial Science. I am taking actuary exams and graduate in 2017. I am looking for an internship in Poland in the Actuary field. I was born in Poland, have a dual-citizenship, and speak 100% fluent in both Polish and English. How high of chances do you think I would have and where do I even begin my search? Any advice would be very appreciated.

Pretty slim, unless you happen to be extremely lucky. But even then, it would probably not be worth your effort... I would definitely choose any other developed EU economy to kick-start a career...

I agree with Jardinero. It's not so much finding a job that is the problem, but finding one that pays decently, especially with entry level jobs. That is the biggest problem you will have in Poland: wages are very low and the somewhat lower cost of living comes nowhere near compensating for that, so your savings potential is much lower than in richer countries. Internships, in particular, are extremely poorly paid and often enough not paid at all. Your best bet is to stay in the States, or try in a richer European country. Actuaries are in demand everywhere.
