CELTA or TEFL for a job in Poland?

I'm interested in teaching English abroad, whether that's in Poland or another European country. What is the best qualification to have? I have read that I should have CELTA not TEFL. But aren't they essentially the same thing? Also, with a lot of Asian countries they require you to have a bachelors degree. Would I need one to teach in Poland/Europe? Thank You

Where are you from (citizenship)? How old are you? What is your educational background? What work experience do you have? Why do you want to teach English? And why do you want to come to Poland? The more detail you give, the better answer you will get.

That's a bit vague - TEFL isn't the name of a qualification. CELTA isn't the only one (Trinity Cert for example is equivalent - basically it has to have 120 hours of observed teaching). CETLA is the best known and that or an equivalent will make the difference between a decent job or a crap one.


Not absolutely required, especially for older people with a decent CV and/or other qualifications, however in Poland it is generally expected and the better training companies/language schools will certainly expect one. Private students would also be reluctant to use a language teacher without a degree unless word of mouth has told them they the teacher is absolutely first class.
