I'm still at a loss as to how some people survive in Poland.

It's a mystery to me how the real down-and-outs survive - the ones who drink themselves silly every day and who haven't seen a job for years. But then again - the problem is that a lot of them are unevictable from city-owned housing.

But there are plenty of people working on the black market.

Hi all,

Just a little query. I am a foreigner who just got a job offer in Poland. The salary that is being offered is around USD2800 (after tax), which is just over PLN8000 / month. I just wanted to get an idea on what sort of salary category does this amount fall in? Would i be able to have a good standard of living in Poland and be able to save some as well? Or would it be hard to manager in this amount? Considering i dont know anyone in Poland, I would be much obliged if someone in here could provide me with some insight.

Many thanks,
Shaz.

All depends on your lifestyle, but you could put quite of that away if you lived on the cheap.

Nothing.

You don't speak the language, so what makes you think you can work here?

Odd jobs don't go to foreigners, they go to Poles.

You certainly won't earn enough to cover living costs. As much as it pains me to say it, Milky is right - you'll only survive if you're prepared to tolerate truly awful living conditions.

As a guide, non-EU students can expect to earn about 5zl an hour working illegally unless you have a demonstrated, verifiable skill. A BA in electrical engineering isn't going to cut it.

Tut tut, Mark: accusing a major international company of paying far below Polish minimum legal wage is really not a good idea!

Just because you can't earn more than 6 zeds an hour doesn't mean that any employer pays that much.

From what I've heard, they're paying well above minimum wage.

Of course, Mark only dreams about Kasia earning such money.

why all the question Marks.
Because your question came with an answer.

IKEA in Bielsk, How much do they pay their workers? 6 zloty an hour???

Implying that they are paying an illegally low wage.
You could have stopped at how much you they pay their workers but you didn't.

he told me they pay 6 euro an hour but this can't be true either..

So you jump to the conclusion that they must be paying a criminal wage?

Milky, it is difficult enough reading and understanding people's ways and reasons of posting on these forums.
You don't do yourself justice by making Poland out to be some kind of criminal country.
All I ask is that you try to find out the truth before jumping to conclusions.

Do you have the right to live and work in Poland? If the answer is no, you will not make any money in Warsaw because nobody here will give you a job.

Yes it does give you the right. But is your Polish fluent? If not, you're not going to get much work.

To be fair, automatic tipping for bar staff is rare outside the states and Canada. It's not just the Poles who don't do it.

Mr D, plus the money that is not registered and goes straight into the pockets of these low paid workers, some people say its carelessness others say its theft.

just a short term career kinda thing, I like alcohol and partying, seems like the perfect setting for me for the meantime.
so Poles don't tip at all or tip less then people in North America? I didn't pay much attention when I went to clubs in Warszawa.
