Are you kidding? The minimum wage is something like 1,400 zl brutto and millions of people have to manage with less than 2,000 a month with families. I know Silesia and Katowice very well and I can say that most people there are poor.
With 7,000, you'll live like a king ! :) (I'm in Warsaw and have around 5,500 to 6,000 (depending on months) and I live very well ;))
Easy to say, however people who travel to other countries to work usually have different priorities and expectations. And certainly don't expect to scrimp.
7,000 is a good salary for Poles but is it good for you and your expectations? Katowice is not exactly the hub of culture in Poland. It is a bit of a **** hole, really. But- you will manage on 7,000 if you are single. Plus the experience of living in Poland.
Witam! I happen to live and work in Poland (local and NOT expat contract) and I know what kind of salaries Polish people have. I don't make 7,000 even brutto but I realize that I'm better off than most Poles.
Poland may be booming (thanks to western money) but only a minority benefits from that since most salaries are very low and that is why Poles go abroad for work.
About half of the Poles make less than 2,800 brutto per month so 7,000 especially netto allows to live like a king or queen although Katowice is not really the kind of place ;).
To conclude, 7,000 zl especially netto is almost a fortune in Poland.
I wouldn't call it a fortune. By the way, I live here too, long term. Remember that housing costs and general expectations are higher if someone isn't a local. Though he can certainly save money on that wage if he is careful..
Yes, it is a salary for an executive so not the situation of the big majority of Poles, who get by even with barely half of that and therefore with 7,000 netto (+ I suppose a lot of fringe benefits too ;) NO financial problem at all in Poland.
I also happen to own house in Kce and trust me that with 7,000 netto no problem as well to rent a fancy place.
executives in Poland make far more than that. try more like 30,000 per month.
Do they fcuk, or is this the pips version of Poland is Warsaw again. Employees be they executives or what ever are only worth 30,000 PLN / month if they are capable of earning 60,000 PLN for the company, and that's only IF they are the only people who can earn the parent company 60,000 PLN / month.
How could I possibly provide a link to somebody's salary.
I have said this before- all of our friends are Polish and they all make over 10,000 per month. My husbands cousin in Gdynia makes close to 12,000 per month. How much do you think the executives of Orlen make per month? I know. And they are all Polish. There are loads of companies here that all have Polish executives that make bank- I know this because my husband finds them office space.
Hi! You canNOT read because I did NOT call you a "troll", if you check, you'll see it's someone else.
But due to the fact that I can say 90% of the Poles make less than 5,000 gross, with 7,000 clear, you'll be with the upper crust :). I know Katowice very well (shall be there this week-end) and I can tell you that most people there are very poor (most of them make more around 1,000).
Of course in Poland (as well as in the poorest countries) there are some making fortunes but in Poland and in all other countries, it is only a tiny minority. If you check the % of Poles in the highest tax bracket, you'll see that it concerns just a few people (curiously enough they all all in PF ;)).
If salaries in Poland were as high as some people say here, Poles would not go to the West to take sh..ty jobs for 1,000/1,200 euros and millions of foreigners would invade Poland for bread, which is not the case.
To conclude, 7,000 especially clear is a great salary in Poland and you'll live well in terms of puchasing power because Katowice is not really the place of one's dream ;)
If salaries in Poland were as high as some people say here, Poles would not go to the West to take sh..ty jobs for 1,000/1,200 euros and millions of foreigners would invade Poland for bread, which is not the case.
exactly, but this opinion will be fought hard by the usual 4 on here, I suppose they are just pushing the party line. In the First year of EU membership a million and a half emigrated, I wonder why??
Employees be they executives or what ever are only worth 30,000 PLN / month if they are capable of earning 60,000 PLN for the company
Company I work for (branch in Poland) makes around 90-100 mil USD/month. 55% is gross margin around 10% is profit after all costs. They employ ~750 people, in the factory, but there is sales force - so let's look at 1000 people altogether - including executives.
Therefore the total gross margin (55% out of 90 mil USD) would be approx. ~ 50 mil USD/month. If you take 3-4% of gross margin (just a bulk figure) for salaries, that gives 1.8-2 mil USD/month - 3-4% of GM going to salaries is actually not that much.
Knowing that most "regular" people will earn around 1000 USD/month (probably 70% of all employees), middle management perhaps 2000 USD/month (maybe 20% of all employees), senior management maybe 5000 USD/month (maybe 7.5% of all employees) - don't you think that final 2.5% (which represents 25 people who are executives) has potential to earn well in excess of 10 000 USD/month (30 000 PLN?)
But due to the fact that I can say 90% of the Poles make less than 5,000 gross, with 7,000 clear, you'll be with the upper crust :)
So maybe he is not an ordinary person, but has some special skills...? I don't know what is some people problem here... Yes, 10000 PLN gross is not typical salary in Poland, yet it is not uncommon for senior specialist position in some fields like IT, banking, insurance, etc. in any of the main agglomerations. Is it a lot? It is 3 or 4 times more than median wage, yet by no means it makes prince of persia from anyone. It is enough though to rent or even buy some flat, buy some car or cool bicycle or both, and save change for the bad times. In short it is enough to live normal life... but still not enough to stop working after 10 years...
As an outsider, I've got less first hand knowledge of the conditions in the city. But, I find it fascinating you should say this. Not long ago I looked up the GDP per capita in Poland in different voivodeships, and thought that Silesia's ranking meant that I should avoid those parts of Poland if looking for people willing to work for a medium wage. I thought to myself, the reason why Silesia ranks so high might be because of old ties with Germany. Since you find the city to be below the average, I'd very much like to hear your thoughts on the table below. From that it seems the region is above the nations average...
I know Katowice very well (shall be there this week-end) and I can tell you that most people there are very poor (most of them make more around 1,000).
This statement proves that you DO NOT know Katowice at all!
i`ve been living here for more than 20 years and i DO NOT know anyone who would earn around 1,000 !!! The average salary in Katowice exceeded 5,000 PLN gross/month, which has been mentioned in public TV last time, and this is the highest salary in Poland (second place for Warsaw with gross salary about 4,600PLN/month). it is true that most people do not earn that much (it is the AVERAGE salary) but on the other hand, i have not heard so much complaining about the salaries from my friends. Even during the internship i earned far more than 1,000 gross, please stop bullsh*tting and keep in mind that Warsaw is not the only one place in Poland to make a good money. And for the whole region - Silesia - the average salary is second highest in Poland, after Mazowieckie, and recently exceeded 4,000 gross.
i agree that Katowice is not a dream city but this is the biggest construction site in Poland and is changing rapidly offering more and more to its inhabitants. People are very nice here, the infrastructure is well-developed, the quality of live is quite high.
And referring to the topic, yes, 7000 net would be comfortable in Katowice as well as anywhere else in Poland.
Coal mining industry and not only. Another reason can be for instance well-qualified human capital. Here are the links that may appear interesting to foreigners as well as persons like 123456780 user:
The forum is protected from links so please write in English Wikipedia 'Silesian Voivodeship' (data about salary and economy`s structure changed since the time of upload) and 'Katowice' (here the data about salary and unemployment is not up-to-date. Salary now - about 5,000gross, unemployment rate - about 4,0%, behind Poznan and Warsaw)
in Google please write 'Join Poland salary highest Katowice' and open the first link. Salary data is valid for 2012.
