47zl net - good for teaching in Lodz?

Hi all
I have been offered 47zl net per lesson (45 mins) in Lodz.

Is this survivable?

I have to ask because I am used to having accommodation provided for me and everything taken care of as opposed to organising things on my own.

Thanks

It's on the low side, assuming you are a qualified and experienced EFL teacher.

Is this survivable?

You'd need a good solid teaching load, say 100 hours/month, to be able to live fairly well.
You say net. Are they going to pay your health insurance? Will they help you to find a place?
When do they want you to start? Provide more details and you'll get more detailed advice.

I have five years experience, CELTA, DELTA, and MA in ELT.

I have been studying a few forums this afternoon and I think that I am worth more than this. They do not provide health insurance.

Some schools don't care about that. You could be offered more in Warsaw but Lodz is poorer and life is cheaper there...

Fair enough

But I don't want to be collecting (after accommodation) the same as I was years ago before I completed the two higher qualifications. I guess I know what I should do.

Thanks

You'll find that EFL salaries haven't really changed much over the past ten years. You can earn good money teaching in-company if you work direct for the company however you'll need to be established with extensive contacts to get that. And in a place like Lodz, every HR Director knows a school owner.

You are. Tell them to poke it.

Depends on how many hours a week they can offer. 47zl net isn't that bad in itself (means a minimum gross of what, around 52zl/45min?) - but I'd try and bump them up to 50zl net.

I've found that in Poland, salaries depend more on "how desperate are they" than "qualifications/experience".

Case in point : blagging 80zl/hour from a desperate school, but only being offered 45zl/hour from a school that everyone wanted to work for.
