Job offer in IT company ( Wroclaw ) - help needed

Hello All,

I've received a job offer in IBM with gross salary of 7700 PLN/Month

- is this salary good for someone having 3 years experience and is it good for a single person to live in Wroclaw as all the expenses will be on me ( relocation / accommodation / everything :D )

- I guess the company will not help me with the flat rent / accommodation or bank account creation . how hard to do these as I don't know polish at all?

if there is any recommendation or someone from IBM here can tell me about the job atmosphere I'd really appreciate that .

It depends which team you're going to join?, which technologies you going to support ?, IBM is not good for people who want to develop themselves everyday.

If it's 7700 after tax you'll be more than fine, especially since you're single, if you had to support a partner you'll probably struggle on it.

Rent for you is gonna be anything from 1200-2000 per month I reckon, depends on where. I'm not close to Wroclaw so I can't give advice.


No harm in asking them to help you look for places, after all, they want you to relocate so they should help. As such a company, they surely have someone there to help foreigners settle.....They'll help with a bank account at least.

@smurf it is 7700 gross which i guess will be 5400net. i'm single, non smoker nor drinker

I wouldn't move to Poland then, Christ you'll need it when it gets to -33C in the winter ;)

5400 for a single person is OK, it's above average. But once you take out your rent you won't be living like a king, but you should be fine. From personal experience in my first two years here I was getting around half of that per month and I survived and I drink like a fish ;)

@smurf well this is scary I'm from Egypt and the lowest temp I've see in my life was like 5C :D

It's a pretty good salary for an entry level position. You will be able to cover your living costs, and even live in moderate comfort, as well as be able to save up a small amount.


Not even close. A tiny fraction of what you would need for tuition and living costs, at best. If that is your goal, you would have to find a much higher paying job, and that is not likely to happen in Poland. The amount that you would be able to save up if you are very careful is on the order of 500 Euro a month. Nice as far as a rainy day fund is concerned, but nowhere near enough to qualify as significant savings toward a serious expenditure such as a degree, especially in only a year.

The main challenges about working in Poland are 1) low wages; 2) high cost of living relative to wages; and 3) very low savings potential. Of the three, the last is by far the most important for foreigners working in Poland, and appears to be your top priority, too. If that is the case, it may not be wise to move to Poland, but instead focus your efforts on actively looking for a job in a richer country in western Europe or the English speaking countries, or the Gulf.

Yes, if you want to do a Masters in Poland, it should be easily achievable on that salary. You might even be able to negotiate that they pay for some of your studies - it's quite common in Poland for employers to do this.

A tip - with a year's experience in Poland in that position, you should be able to get a decent payrise after that time.

I guess with renting a room around 1000 pln and expenses monthly of 2000-2500 PLN i'll save around 2000 per month which after a year can get me to study masters in english in poland.

I was also offered a job by IBM about 1.5 months ago. Everything went fine and now i am waiting for their contract offer. They wanted my diploma, transcript and passport to check if my education is equivalent to Polish or not. On friday they called me and said that they are waiting approval from Central office of I BM (out of Poland, i think from USA). And they said it can take 2-3 weeks more to get this approve.

Can you please tell about your process:
*When were you called for job?
*What were the steps for your process?
*How long did you wait for offer?
*Did you get work permit or you are still waiting?

* i found the job on linkedin and applied through ibm website
* contacted by phone after 2 weeks and scheduled skype interview
*interviews took around few weeks then hr asked for documents for validation. it took 2 months to get their feedback with an offer
*after the offer acceptance IBM will work on the work permit and it takes around 4 to 5 weeks to get it done and sent it to u. so u can apply to the visa

One more question, how much money did you ask for them and then they offered you 7700 PLN/month?

I accepted the offer and they applied for the work permit and I should be done by mid January.
I googled and searched through the forum here for average salaries as I have around 3 years of experience and speaking english/arabic only and I asked for a salary around 6000 net

I reside in Pune, India with my family and earning around 160k/year in an IT job. Excluding liabilities/monthly expenses I am able to save at least 40k/month. I have got an offer of around 120k/year with an employer in Wroclaw. Would it be a good idea to take up the opportunity in Poland.

I would really appreciate if experienced expats can guide me to take a wise decision.

I assume 120k/year PLN is the gross salary which is 10000 PLN gross (~7000 net) per month. This is a good salary.

Accommodation: 2000 PLN (max). You can even go for a sharing apartment and reduce this cost.
Food + other bills (internet + transportation): 1000 PLN max (again this depends on how lavishly you live, in which case, this may even increase)
