Hi,

I am looking at a job opportunity in Poznan where the salary is between 4 - 5,000 gross per month.
Would this be enough for me to have a 1 bedroom flat on my own? Looking on oferty. It appears most flats in the centre for this size are around 1,200 upto 2,000 zl depending if it includes admin fees. Is this accurate? how much extra will i be paying for electricity? the admin apparently includes, water and heating on say a flat that costs 1,800 zl. So i am also wondering, for 1 person am i looking at food costing me 1- 1,500 per month too? So therefore how much if say i am on 4,000 gross will i get net?

I've been told by the recruitment this is an attractive offer because the company offers private healthcare. So does this mean i will have more from net pay than i usually would? Apparently the offer is negotiable, so do you think i would struggle on 4,000? so therefore should look for 5,000 gross?

any help would be great.

thanks.

Hi Russ,

I would say that it could be a bit of a struggle on 4000 brutto which would be like 3000 NET.
You can live on it, but considering that you need a 1 bedroom apt. in the city you will be left with like 1800-2000ZL pr. month for food, clothes, travel etc. It's a bit low IMO, offcourse it depends on your live style and so.

But from my advice you should go for the 5000 Brut. which would leave you with like 36-3700ZL which you will be able to live a quiet okay life for one person.

Okay thanks, Looking at flat prices, they seem to be say initially, 1200 zl then adding on it seems 300zl for administration. Are you looking at about 1,700zl for rent on say a flat that is 1,200 initially so,electricity, water, gas, etc then perhaps then another 1,000 zl on food?

I honestly can't say why, but everybody seems to spend so much money on food here. I spend probably no more than 700-800 for two people per month. Also, while private medical care is a bonus, you will still pay ZUS gaining access to free state health care.

We own a flat (paying the mortgage on it, less than 20k to go) but we still pay a fortune on "administration" costs. We pay 50zł a month because our building has an elevator. We pay 380 a month in 'rent' (which is based on the presumption of how much we will spend on utilities. It got highly inflated due to a leak we had, so expecting a nice payout at the beginning of 2013). For a breakdown of two people, on average we pay:

380 - rent
40-50 - gas (every 2 months)
180-250 - electricity (every 2 months)

Of course you need to keep in mind you'll likely want an internet connection, telephone (contract?PayG?) etc.

Yes we will probably be looking at around 1700ZL pr. month atleast expect so.
Food pr. month you can do for 30ZL pr. day so yea IMO like 1000ZL pr. month would be good to have for food.

But to be honest if you'll get 3000NET that will leave you left with basically nothing, so consider if its worth it or atleast do all you can to get the 5000 Gross.

But to be honest if you'll get 3000NET

you will survive on this wage as many people do,but you'll be poor.

Hi Russ,

You don't say what type of contract they're offering - whether it's umowa o pracy, umowa o dzieło or any of the other variants. This has quite an impact on how you're taxed (and therefore what your take home pay would be).

5000 gross is around the average wage, and Poznań isn't a cheap city. I was getting a little over that ten years ago there and found it very difficult. What type of work is it, by the way?

I'm not sure why you're trying to compare a chav-infested hellhole with a pleasant city like Poznan.

40-50 - gas (every 2 months)

so you basically never drive.

To the OP, if you don't plan on vacationing out of Poland to visit countries with Euros/pounds, walk everywhere/public transport, don't have children or student loans, you'll be fine on that amount.

No. The average gross salary in the Poznan region (which includes some small, out of town places) is 4015.37 złoty. In the city it is obviously higher. The deductions vary according to the type of contract. I'm not sure what flat rental prices in Liverpool have to do with it.

Some locals, especially without much bargaining power in the jobs market would be happy with that amount. For an expat it is too low.
