Finnis is going to work in Krakow. IS 5500 gross + 1500 for apartment monthly OK?

I'm Finnish and I have a degree (bachelor) of sciences. I just received an job offer from Krakow and the salary would be 5500 zloty (gross) + 1500 zlots for apartment monthly. What do you think about this? I'm not considering this for more as an experience. I haven't ever been in Poland.

Thank you for answers

+ 1500 zlots for apartment monthly.

do you mean that your employer will participate in the costs of renting? or will they simply rent a place for you?

if you don't have family and will not pay for a lodging then 5500 PLN gross is enough for quite a comfortable living (it's close to 3500 PLN net)

I have an option to choose apartment up to 1500 zloty per month and I don't have family. Are taxes really so high in poland that my net will be only 3500zloty if gross is 5500?

the personal income tax is just 18 per cent for your level of earnings (minus so called cost of obtaining) - it's the social security contribution that is included in the gros earnings that constitutes the biggest part of the deduction - the tax is counted after the deduction of social security contributions

You could reduce the tax burden by asking your potential employer to employ you as a one-person company. That way you pay 19% flat rate tax (less deductions for things like telephone and internet bills, part of your rent, computer purchases, etc) and the social insurance contribution is taken down to about 200zl per month (but only for the first two years).

Another option is to simply be employed on an umowa o dzielo (a contract for a specific task). With that you pay no social insurance contributions at all but you also have no access at all to the Polish health care system (unless you pay for it).

You can get a two-room place in Krakow for that much.

and you have to pay around 300 PLN (I can't remember the exact cost) monthly as health insurance (and there is some beaurocratic hassle added)

I wouldn't go for self-employed status for a start Finlando

Self-employed works out to be a bit cheaper (plus in theory one can transfer the pension contributions back to where one is from, if that's an EU country) and it isn't really much hassle. Some employers won't go down the umowa o dzielo route because it can come back on them.

Hey,
Well I recently just thought about moving out and looked at some places around the city. I pay 1500 for a HUGE room in a three room apartment sharing with one other. When it comes to renting your own place I don't know what the standard is like at home but unless you want to live, sleep, pee, cook in a box you'll have to pay btwn 2,000 - 2,500. The other thing is note is the prices they give are not the ACTUAL prices you need to pay strata fees etc which can add up to another 500 zlt a month. ALSO don't go through an agent as they'll make you pay one month of rent to them as a fee.....I suggest asking your work to help you and try to sort it out with them but make sure you say two bedrooms or you'll end up living in a studio...

You can easily get a nice one room apartment in krakow for 1500PLN pr. month.
Also if you make 5500 Gross, then after taxes this would end up being 4000 Net.
So if you pay 1500 for flat, then it would leave you with 2500 for living expanses which is more than enough for one person to have a healthy living here in krakow.
