There are very few companies that will hire native English speakers who aren't competent in the Polish language. The ones that do hire are the ones that are either (as you've already found out) call centres, or they're looking for people with skills that far exceed what you have.

Put it this way - what do you offer that the average Polish graduate doesn't have? I've just posted a job advert yesterday for a PA - with fluent English being required. So far, I've got over 50 CV's to look through - in less than 24 hours. You're immediately at a disadvantage compared to them - and they all have degrees. There's even more and more non-EU citizens with reasonable skills in Polish looking for work, too.

I know someone that might be interested in hiring you on a commission-only basis, but that's about it. Could be good money, could be crap - hard to say. It's still a job, I suppose. If you're interested, let me know.

If you couldn't hack it in the airlines call centre and couldn't get enough work as a teacher - have you thought about calling it a day? There really aren't many more businesses willing to hire someone who only speaks English.

No luck there, he was already fired from Arvato (who do all the airline-related work here). I don't *think* there are any others in Poznan who would be in need of a monolingual Brit.

fired, that is not the case they Arvato lost their contract with United Airlines where i was a specialist in ticketing.

Nice try. But we all know that "specialist" is actually an entry level title in Poland and bears no relation to the English usage of the word.

And if so, why are Arvato still advertising for people to work for UA?

because we still are needing specialist in different languages up until the date the contract expires. its not only United that are terminating their contract also Easyjet are in November. I would appreciate some advice rather than an attack.

So if the contract hasn't expired, how come you lost your job before then?

If you want advice, then consider this - you're struggling to find work in Poznan, you don't speak any other languages, you don't speak Polish, and you don't have any skills that are in demand from companies that work in English. Do you really think Poznan is a good idea?

I know Poznan fairly well - and one thing that I can tell you is that there's immense competition from young Polish graduates. But with no Polish skills and no even halfway relevant degree, what makes you stand out over them?

I'm getting made redundant in November is that no clear? I understand that I am slight handicapped by my lack of Polish, but I know for that it doesn't completely exclude me from opportunities within the current job market. I posted a post with the intention of receiving some friendly advice, but I realise now that I was wrong.

It might not completely exclude you, but with no second language, no relevant (or even vaguely relevant) degree and no real work history, it's always going to be a struggle - especially when you're up against well educated Poles with two/three languages. What makes you different to them? There's no difference to the average employer if their staff are "fluent" or "native".

If Arvato are going out of business, then it's going to be an even bigger struggle for you because you'll be up against everyone from there.

As I said, I know someone that might hire you on a commission-only basis for a sales job. Interested?

Delph, is this really something you REALLY need to be commenting on?
Apart from posting the bleeding obvious, if you aren't gonna offer him some kind of job or advice then why comment at all?
It sounds a lot like you are trying with the hard push to sell your mates position of work.

Well, the advice is simple : Poznan is a hell of a tough place without language skills, education and relevant experience. Oh, and basic competence.

If he's interested in a job so much, he'd ask me for more information. Can't be many sales jobs out there in Poznan that don't require Polish skills...

I'm sure he will know that from personal experience.

Maybe starting a thread with advice for ex-pats looking for work in Poznan, would be more useful.

I am looking of information about the job that you mentioned, but on the other hand i don't know if I should really consider involving myself with someone who is so defeatist and I know from living in Poznan that things are never so straightforward for someone who cannot speak Polish, but that is reality.

To get private clients this site is worth creating an advert on (and paying the 10zl a month for it to be shown near the top)

e-korepetycje.net

Results will probably depend on your area.
There are quite a few people who just want to practice speaking. If your area has a lot of foreigners, then they might be able to get that for free.

Please don't let that negative ass discourage you. There are plenty of college students that will pay you to have conversational training because I found that when I lived in Poznan everyone will say they speak English but most of them have the vocabulary and speaking skills in English of three year old children. Just post some fliers at the colleges and you should have no problem finding work as a tutor.

Can an anyone give me any advice on what companies within Poznan

Why not work in any fast food restaurants like Kebab? For me a Job is more important than to have a woman. ..hahaha!! In your situation I take any low pay jobs out there. If Poles go abroad and take any low pay jobs in UK and USA, why not us?..
