i'd love to know what "Guest" thinks of the police in his/her own country and if he/she would rely on the police to help when in a time of need.

say what you want about the cops in the USA.....when the fit hits the shan, people call the cops here and in a matter of minutes they show up and get $hit done. people respect the police here because the majority of them deserve it (always a couple bad eggs in the bunch).

you might get harrassed at an airport for something you didn't think was wrong, deal with an arrogant officer or two but when someone is beating a family member of yours out on the street, you'll be kissing that same guy's feet when he shows up and puts a beating on the person harming your family member and throws the guy's a$$ in the back of the patrol car.

when i fly to poland, i follow instructions. when i get to the airport and they tell me to open my bags so they can search it, i do it without rolling my eyes or questioning why they need to do it (i've been searched twice so far).

when you come to my country, i expect the same.

Generally speaking, doesn't America have quite a decent reputation for policing? The respect shown to the local police (especially in small towns) far surpasses anything I've seen in Europe.

The TSA is another thing, but heck, enough Americans lay into them.

True. People in suburbs or out in the countryside don't experience this stuff, they can go their whole lives without seeing anyone getting stabbed or shot. It's the city, the intercity to be precise and it's ghettos. As for Police officers they get 30-35 K a year, if you worked in those slums where you risk your life on a daily basis you'd take money off drug dealers and keep it.

Sure, but I'm talking about a big urban area...The video was from Rochester NY which is a medium sized city, but the scene there is much like Philadelphia or Boston...Cops here, as I said, mostly just do clean up and paperwork after a crime has occurred...You will see this motto on many city cop cars 'To Protect & Serve': But that usually means nothing...Cops don't feel a duty to protect individual citizens, unless something happens right under their nose...In Philadelphia, the only time police really react is if another cop is in danger...Just the way it is.

I feel for cops: most are OK, but the nature of the job would make you want to kill yourself or someone else...There are some real control freak types, like the ones in the video.

What can you know about TSA if you have never been to the States?I flew on US -PL route at least dozen of times and my only bad experience was with rude Irish and Dutch immigration officers (the plane on AMS was waiting 20 minutes only for Grubas because I was filing a complaint).

it's the job most people don't want to do because of the risk involved but they'd never dream of moving to a city that didn't have a law enforcement agency to protect them in a time of need.

Yea I didn't ever even here of anyone getting robbed and surely not stabbed or shot in Poland. The osiedle in Stalowa Wola where I used to live Zatorze was one of the worst in the city and that never happened. Teenagers and young adults fought after a football match between themselves, that was about it. You never see filth or crime in Poland like in the minority neighborhoods in the States, there's just no comparison.

the answer the trollish thread is simple really, if keep your wits about you and avoid trouble spots (poor areas) where people dont have much financial power you'll be just fine. The same as most countries.

If you're thinking about visiting America, by all means, visit...You will not be harassed in the street by police.

What we do have, however, is more video documentation of this type of police activity, which is good.

America is mostly very free-wheeling, although the government is taking cues from former Soviet style bureaucracy to implement all kinds of red tape and such for our daily lives and travel.
