Hi everyone, im brand new to this forum.

I've met a girl from Warsaw and we sent each other something nice. She sent her package (from Warsaw) and it came very promptly in 5 days. (i live in Wisconsin). However i send mine on January 3rd, it has yet to arrive. It was in a USPS flat rate priority envelope if that makes any difference. i double checked the address with the one i put on the customs form everything was printed ok. so does anyone have any ideas? i know the Polish postal system isn't the best but 3 weeks?! Thanks for any help.

How do you know it's the Polish postal service that's the problem? It could be the USPS... Did you get a tracking number? It's only a few extra pennies.

If it was important you should've used DHL, Fedex, or UPS (note, not USPS). Don't trust a government agency for important packages.

I've had about 4 or 5 packages that have disappeared after they left Ireland on the way to me. Postal worker seems to have sticky fingers 'round here

Doubt it was in the US as they have some of the best, cushy jobs out there and have lots of benefits and if caught you're fired on the spot and police gets involved. Why would anyone want to risk that is beyond me. Of course, you never know. Tracking number is a must whether you choose the government (USPS) or the private option (DHL/Fedex/UPS).

I use USPS and ship to Gydnia frequently (from US, CO.), NEVER have had a problem. My flat rates get there with 7 days (longest). Sorry to hear your have problems. But if you shipped flat rate, International, You should have a tracking number. The info on tracking is delayed a bit once it leaves the US but will appear on the tracking site eventually.

I didn't include a tracking number, i didn't know you could get that on international packages. I am for sure doing it in the future.

I've looked at UPS, FedEx and DHL, they are all about 3 or 4 times the price of USPS! but i mean if they get there.

So there is pretty much no hope? the package is probably not coming? I've sent normal mail back and forth with her, you know like postcards and letters. Those seem to take forever. Could this be the same? Thanks again.

It'll get there eventually. Christmas probably delayed it.

FYI - you paid to the USPS but in all likelihood it was flown on FedEx as they carry some 80% of US post office's international mail and packages. They only deliver to the local post office which then delivers to the customer. When you went to the post office you probably saw a fedex drop off box there somewhere? They have a 7 year agreement to carry most of their air mail/packages. The post office simply couldn't handle it, they've been losing money for years.

the local post office which then delivers to the customer.

Assuming (when talking about Polish local post offices) that:
a) the postman can be bothered to deliver the parcel; and
b) nobody at the post office fancies stealing the parcel.

I hope your right skysoulmate.

Thanks for the bit of info :D very helpful.

i did manger to uncover a little good news (maybe bad i don't know) I looked at the customs form again and i realized that the number at the top is a tracking number. So i typed it in on the USPS website. and what it said kinda surprised me. Maybe someone can clear it up for me. It said:

Processed through Sort Facility, January 04, 2011, 1:39 pm, CHICAGO, IL 60688
Processed through Sort Facility, January 04, 2011, 2:37 am, OAK CREEK, WI 53154

and then it says on the top "The item is currently in transit to the destination. Information, if available" so maybe there is still hope?

I'm not sure why the tracking wouldn't be updated in 20 days?! anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

That is what it says when it leaves the USA they do not update it until it actually arrives... It will get there just be patient.! :)
