Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA?

Really? I rate it as the best of their three places and probably the best curry in Poland.


As far as I know Arti is still open there (and their place in Saska) but I haven't been for years: Namaste and Ganesh are so good there's no need to look elsewhere.

It is ignorance because people here don't know Polish cuisine even many Polish-Americans. Thet think Polish food is kielbasa, pierogi, golabki, barszcz and babka. That's what the poor people brought over, it's peasant food. Once on MTV one of the dating shows they went to a real Polish restaurant in LA. Had dishes like stuffed Roasted Duck in wild mushroom sauce or Lamb chops with garlic and thyme, roast pike.

Poles hate lamb, Lamb is like rocking horse shite in Poland, you just cant get it. Their beef is tuff as old army boots too.

Nah im talking the real Polish meals, typical Polish cuisine well cooked and prepared with the finest ingredients. Golabki, potato cake with goulash (i know its Hungarian) but what the hell, uhmm pierogi obviously, schabowe, kapusta, and of course the wonderful salads - especially boracki.

I'll tell you something, I ate pizza in Italy and I have to say that our pizza is better (you'll most likely disagree as always) and that's why I said earlier that it's a matter of preference after all. Now talking about Polish food, it's very specific in its taste and it's simply not the kind of food that will please many people other than Poles. OK, you like it because you live there and because you're different (again, honey bunny, different is not a bad word).

It's not impossible to find fresh lamb but it is very difficult. I go to a particular butcher twice a week because they sometimes sell it. Last week they had a little (somewhere between lamb and mutton) so I bought a couble of kilos. I personally do not know a single Pole who likes lamb or mutton. As for the beef, yes it's not easy to find good tender beef in Poland. I suppose it's because the animals spend so much time indoors.

Our pizza!! Itialian pizza is the same right across the country, thin crust sex on a plate IMO. Sure there are some decent pizza joints in the US, but you cant say our pizza unless youre talking about big companies such as pizza hut.

I bought so much beef in PL, looking at it in the shop thinking thats gonna be lovely only to get it home and feel like throwing the shite against the wall in frustration once cooked. Fillet is safe, but thats about it.


I found some poxy bones with a little bit of meat on them in Auchen once, it was frozen and thought fcuk that just gimme some turkey or pork instead.

Well if we look at it like that almost no of the food is Polish ,kielbasa is something else, pierogi barszcz Russian, golabki maybe. Then what is American? hamburger is German, bacon and eggs English, pizza Italian, hot dog maybe?


Because it's relatively unknown in Poland and you gotta know how to cook it. Kebab is Lamb Poles love it.

How about the boczek here? Is it best just to throw it in a pan and boil it up or can it be put into a microwave-style oven? Any suggestions?

I know what you mean. The stuff in hypermarkets is just what nobody else will buy. The place I get mine from is a family butcher (if you know what I mean) with a farm, so it's all good.


kebab should be lamb, and I'm sure Americans love it, but kebab in Poland is pork or chicken. No lamb.

I call it our pizza because millions of Italians are a part of this nation and so the pizza they make became one of our favorite foods in the US. Besides, it tastes different than Italian pizza made in Italy (to me anyway).

Lamb - baranina - is very popular in Poland, sometimes it's hard to find but if you're in Zakopane, everything is made with baranina. They have so many sheep there that they got nothing better to do then to milk them.

Polish pizza is the one loaded with ketchup. Not something eaten in America.

Boil, steam, microwave, fry or oven. Theres always the fire but not very conventional.

The Polish highlanders do make wonderful dishes. Went to restaurant in Zakopane once for a relatively low price (considering all the food) they brought me maybe a meter long tray with lamb, potatoes, veggies, salads, bread no way I could finish it.

But that seems to be the national character of American food.

That's why I prefer as Wroclaw Boy put it French food with a glass of red wine. Smart people the French they don't even exercise and are thin through eating the right way.

They also smoke and have a lot of sex.

But to be serious, one problem in America is the type of food, the other is how much of it. The portions in American restaurants are unbelievable.

Yes and to stuff oneself like a pig. Eating smaller portions more often is the right way to go about it. Every 2-3 hours.
