Are you going to the parade Sledz?

In NY we celebrate Pulaski memorial day. This is held every year on October 11 by Presidential Proclamation, to commemorate his death at the Siege of Savannah on October 11, 1779

Sledz, I'll join you in that toast to Pulaski, and I look forward to your review of the St. Paddy's Day parade in Chicago--love that green Chicago River!

By next year, may you be celebrating both holidays in your very own Polish bar.

Na zdrowie!

Polonia out in force on Pułaski Day

New York's Pułaski Day Parade is that Polonian community's major event of hte year. In Chicagoland, it is the 3rd of May parade.

Thousands don their 'Polish and proud' T-shirts, youngsters turn out in Krakowiak outfits, and there is fun, food, drinks and merriment all round. Long live Polonia!

Caught some of it this afternoon, my wife and I (..though not enough 'cuz we got into Manhattan a little after 2pm - rats!!) As always, the costumes from some of those mountain areas in Southern Poland were awesome.

Dodatkowo SZCZĘŚLIWEGO DNIU PU£ASKIEGO:-)

Merged: Pułaski Day celebrations in New York

I found this on Skyscrapercity and thought I'd share. It's quite interesting - I found the marching by commercial businesses to be something completely unfamiliar here, for instance. Some other things are also interesting, such as the stork on the front of the ZHP truck.

Can anyone tell me (Polonius?) what the flags are here?

The American and Polish flags are obvious, but the next two?

Buffalo, NY and vicibity celebrate Pułaski Day with parade & festival

Poland's white and red colors illuminated Buffalo-area landmarks for Pułaski Day celebrations
The Peace Bridge, Buffalo City Hall, Electric Tower in Buffalo and Niagara Falls were flooded with white and red lights, the colors of the Polish flag, to mark Pułaski Day. An annual parade and festival honoring 18th-century Polish General Kazimierz Pułaski is held there in mid-July. Other PolAm communities celebrate the occasion in October. Anna Maria Anders, a secretary of state in the Polish Prime Minister's office and the daughter of war-time hero General Władysław Anders, served as the Special Honorary Grand Marshal of the parade. "Having someone of the stature as Secretary of State Anders coming to Upstate NY is a huge honor for not just our Polish community but for everyone in the area," said Joseph Mikołaj Rej Jr, co-chair of the General Pułaski Parade.

General Casimir Pulaski Was Female - say researchers of Georgia Southern

General Casimir Pulaski (Kazimierz Pułaski, born in Warsaw on March 4 or March 6, 1745; died on October 11, 1779 during the siege of Savannah), one of the great heros of the American Revolution, has been found to be female by the researches of the Georgia Southern University.

As such, a chapter in American history is forever changed. The story behind this historic mystery is revealed in Smithsonian Channel's documentary, "America's Hidden Stories: The General Was Female?".

"It's not often that you get to rewrite the history books. We are pleased to have Smithsonian Channel walk the final mile with this talented team of anthropologists who have finally uncovered the truth about one of America's great war heroes" - says Smithsonian Channel Executive Producer Tim Evans.
