I was born in Poland. I came to the US in 1965 when I was 3 Years old. I never became US citizen (lazy me) and have a green card living in New York.
I need to get a passport to go on vacation in July.
I have my oriiginal birth certificate and other documents from Poland.
The counsulate In NY said, I must first fill out a form for "confirmation of citizenship" and wait for a confirmation letter from Poland before appling for a passport.
Could this be right, as I have my birth certificate showing I was born there?
Any idea of the time frame for this procedure?
Thank you for any reply.
Yes, that is right, There are many comments on this forum about the procedure. May take 3 months, may take 2 years. It all depends on how fast the bureucracy turns.
By and large it takes 6 months to get the citizenship confirmation. Then you need too apply for a passport at your local consulate. I reckon, you postpone your trip to 2013. All that as long as your willing and of sound mind.
