the literal translation? - maybe: 'what our cottage is abundant in, it is keen to share' sort of - sounds strange, huh? ;)

is scotch, whiskey or bourbon popular in Poland? I'd like to bring some to my cousins. Is it cheaper to bring it from the States or buy it there?

If you're coming over and have room to spare, grab some at the duty free when you take off.

Here are some local prices:

czym chata bogata tym rada - the home is joyful with whatever riches it has. As literal as I can make it.

Or the proverb had really been modified in the communist times: Tym chata bogata, co ukradnie tata!

I hope it stops raining by September! I remember this month as being very, very nice weather-wise.

I remember this month as being very, very nice weather-wise.

I was in Poland almost a year ago. My cousin picked one of the hottest, and most humid days of the year to get married. I'm still dying to go back though :)

I'm still dying to go back though :)

I know, I know. I'm only going for a week. That's ok because I can't wait any longer(and that's all the vaca time I have left :(....As the date draws near, I'm getting more and more nervous. It's nuts!

Has anyone been to the Tskie brewery in Tychy? They don't conduct tours do they?

Does one pump his own gas in Poland?...."do pełna" (fill er up) right?

Are you from NJ?Guess what,in Poland you first fill then pay. They had no idea what I wanted when I gave them 50 PLN and asked for 50 on 2.

In overwhelming number of cases YES just like in the US except NJ.I think the only exception in PL is when you fuel LPG.

Guess what, in US you first fill and pay too. Unless you live in a city full of illegals.

When you land in Warsaw, there are lots of international car rental services, like Hertz. As far as I'm aware, it's the same here as in the US. Normally, I'd just tell you to use public transport, since the roads around Poland are pretty bad because of the heavy rain. Not all cities have been able to fill the newest holes. However, since you are here only a week and have large schedule then I think you'll need a car. Just be careful while driving. :)

Be careful where you park too, large cities have gotten car-boot crazy in recent years. When I first came to £odz, I remember cars just parking wherever they wanted. Not so now, they'll boot your car for parking in the wrong spot in minutes.

@ Seanus If I don't ask these questions here, where shall I ask them? :)
@ Parastie I'm flying into Wrocław. I think I'll take a cab into town and rent one there.

National and Hertz are directly at the airport. Walk out of arrivals and it's right in front of you. Just a word of warning, unless you're flying out really early or really late, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get to the airport. It can take a good hour from Plac Grunwaldzki depending on the traffic.

Convenient for sure but convenience comes at a premium. Its about 15% cheaper to rent a car in the city.

That's what I was told in another threa

HUH?? Wow! That's incredible. That ride used to take 30minutes tops, on a very bad day....I beleive I'm about to get my mind blown.

It shouldn't be that bad, because Wrocław will get it's bypass fully opened at the end of August, so the traffic in the city will be lower.

so the traffic in the city will be lower.

i seriously doubt that traffic flow in the city will change much.

the trip to the airport should be quite quick, but it really depends on your starting point and time of day.

I'll probably be driving from Zabrze. My flight is at 13:45.

Very cool!

The road from Zabrze might be busy but they improved the road not too long ago.

You're probably ok if you get something close to rynek. it's bad when crossing bridges, and then it takes about 20 minutes to get past nowy dwor.
