Canada born - Mother born in Poland; trying to apply for Polish passport

anyone know any easier way to get a polish passport, my mother was born in Poland, i am CDN born, she has already spend a large fortune with the Polish embassy in Mtl, now i must file documents for a birth certificate for me, from Poland, which is most unusually, dont understand this, since i was accepted as a Polish citizen already, anyway the embassy here is a not helpfull at all, we are at a stalemate, since now they claim that my mothers middle name is causing us problems. does anyone have has similar problems, how to get this done.

It is all in the level of expectations. What can we expect from a country that had no government in place for the last ~60 years. Even before that the Poland existed for a short period of time between wars and then back to feudalism. That last period of communist occupation was the most damaging to Polish society. Under communism Poles learned to disregard their peers and look for their own interest - corruption was rampant - I know I was there. That attitude will not change very quickly unless we will let Polish government know that there is a better way. Polish consuls - learn from Canada! - I get my passport renewed by getting acrobat form on-line, my doctor signs it here in Colorado and I mail to Ontario. I get my new Canadian passport in 3 weeks.

I tried to contact Polish Consulate in L.A. (this is my Polish services district for 15 western states) - they do not answer the phone and do not respond to email. I think they feel very important opening their little window every morning serving a queue of desperate Poles trying to get back to Poland :-). Because of this nonsense biometric Polish passports I would have to fly to L.A. at least twice - once to file the application in person and second time to pick it up. This is totally unacceptable!

I believe that the requirement for a personal interview is pretty recent and may have something to do with the anti-terrorist efforts. A pain in the behind, but not such a bad idea.

you should make the drive to Ottawa, call first of course. I have never had a problem with them. My eldest was born in Ottawa and has dual citizenship- we never had any issues. Call and see if it is possible to get a passport from the Ottawa office- maybe something like you are living there for a few months....but it may not be possible because of residing in Quebec- but honestly it is worth the hassle to save yourself the agro of dealing with those people.

Here in Poland, after my youngest was born, we went through the same process- with more difficulty around the Polish passport. My daughters picture is of when she was a newborn- she is now six. I actually got a hassle at customs in Poland because of her photo. How this is my fault I have no idea- don't issue a passport for 7 years if the applicant is a newborn.

I'm not an expert on this but i know someone in the same situation whose almost given up right now. From what u're saying i guess u're only a Polish Citizen due to the fact that your mom was born here. Theoratically you are, but when it comes to claiming it the bar seems to be raised which is quite typical. The issue here that most respondents are missing is your birthcertificate. If your mom registered your birth here she must have your birthcertificate and then when it comes to u getting the passport since u're a dual citizen (i pressume). You must apply with a current issued copy of your birthcertificate which u can get from the town or city your mom registered your birth. If you're gonna do it from CANADA my guess is it will take you very long, but if you could get someone to get u the current copy of your BC from here without any problems then i'm sure u'll almost be there. As to your Mom's middle name if the Canadian Officials misspelled it then of coz it can be an issue with the consulate. I also hope that she registered her marriage here and changed her surname on her Polish Documents. The person i know who was also born in Canada with a Polish Dad had to travel here to try to get everything sorted he got all those documents (cause his dad had not registered his birth here) but the issue now is that they are now demanding for a document from Canada which is quite difficult to get. Applying for a Polish Passport because your Parents were born here is a very difficult task quite frankly, i wish you could read some of the posts here i'm sure they could help you....

your mother should have her immigration documents and all other info when she arrived to Canada- there needs to be clarification made before you can go further. It can be done but it is a hassle more than anything.
