Name Your Poison: How a Banned Polish Vodka Buffaloed Its Way Into the U.S.

BIALYSTOK, Poland-Distillers here have the American spirit-vodka from where the buffalo roam. But this cocktail has a twist: It's banned in the U.S.

Now, after nearly a decade of work on two continents to formulate and brand a legal version of the alcohol, its producers are taking a shot at the American market. The booze, called Żubrówka, is unusual because it is flavored with a rare, pungent wild grass enjoyed by European bison. Each bottle has a blade of the grass in it for the drinker to admire.

mmmmmmm,my first ever drink on Polish soil, used to be like that over here, though I dont think for legal reasons,if you found it you bought it,now my local, non polish corner shop stocks it :)

Makes me chuckle though, no blades of grass but worms are fine :)

Some interesting facts on coumarin that I found:---"-Coumarin has blood-thinning, anti-fungicidal and anti-tumor activities. Coumarin should not be taken while using anticoagulants. Coumarin increases the blood flow in the veins and decreases capillary permeability. Coumarin can be toxic when used at high doses for a long period.

Coumarin seems to work as a pesticide in the plants that produce it. Coumarin is responsible for the sweet smell of new mown grass." That's why I get the urge to mow the lawn when I drink this stuff!!!!

Everything is a poison when used in high enough doses.

And that is how it shall be drink! It's called "szarlotka" (apple pie).

BTW - This is another proof that the US government is evil to the core. How such a tasty booze could be banned?

Polmos Bialystok. is owned by CEDC and the main man is an American. So I guess they already love it.

Not enough to be a deterrent.

ya---but when you have one cigarette, one beer.one shot of booze, one snort of crack, smoke some pot and one blade of grass---it all adds up to some weird combination which your system may not be able to handle.
