The links between Polish and American Muslims should be celebrated, and should be enhanced with cultural exchanges, scholarship programmes for Muslim children and young adults and official events in Washington and Warsaw as well as in their traditional lands. Both sides have a lot to offer each other, and they can help to dispel the myths that surround Muslims in both countries.

With time, we can hope that both communities will grow, build new mosques and that their community will continue to go from strength and strength.

Or Poland can celebrate the tatar muslims who have been in Poland for centuries but ensure no further muslims enter Poland.

The Lipka Tatars have a long and very rich history here. Henryk Sienkiewicz had Lipka Tatar blood on his father's side.


As part of the EU, several million have the right to settle here already. I don't see any rush of people coming in, and those who do settle certainly seem to make a go of things here..

As I understand it, the Polish government have recently honoured one of the local Imams (I think a Lipka Tatar) with an award. There's also a resurgence of interest in traditional Lipka cuisine here.

Which myths are you referring to, the ones about how to properly beat your wife or how they don't use toilet paper and only use their bare hand to wipe themselves ?

Please share with us your personal list of what you think some of these myths are as they may not be myths at all.
Maybe start with the proud links of marrying pre teen girls in arranged marriages or buggering little boys as being acceptable in their culture.

Bull***t. As long as they've no official allowance from the Polish govt they have NO RIGHT at all to come to Poland.

I am afraid from legal point of view (as much we don't like this idea) Jon is correct. We are part of EU- if they hold German, French ,Swedish..... passport they can come and live in Poland any time.The same like Polish can move to Germany,France.....

Funny you should mention that, but the number of Tatars in Poland has been increasing over the last couple of years. For rather obvious reasons some of the Tatars from Crimea no longer want to live that and some of them have moved to the Bialystok region.

As for the rest of your post, I certainly do not agree with discrimination on religious grounds and I'm very glad that the kind of discrimination you propose is illegal under Polish law and indeed unconstitutional too.

In Europe we can't really discriminate on religious grounds but at least Poland can put some control in relation to letting in illegal emigrants for which is widely criticised by EU.

Well at least we can limit their numbers by banning so called refugees from coming here. Besides in the case of an event of bombing i am pretty sure that our govt will take meassures to deal with terrorists even if they hold EU passports. In fact it's only because of the self-destructive EU policy we are even at risk of at least one of such events.

I think British are a bit specific nation - half European half islanders :-) and are leaving soon EU but the problem here is this big post colonial guilt. Clearly Tories will win next election as they don't have much competition with comrade Corbyn. I hope lefttards will get pushed away.

I think the future of those countries will be a mixture of Sweden and Holland. Islamic states with homos and trannies on the streets and a total lack of morality. Hell on Earth.

At the risk of posting something related to the topic after so many off-topic posts, I think you'd find that the vast majority of American Muslims would also oppose discriminating against people on religious grounds, as, of course, would the majority their non-Muslim countrymen.

Harry the point of going off topic so wildly was to draw attention to the provocative nature of this thread. It wasn't started out of interest for the topic was it?

Why do you feel that long and proud links between Polish Muslims and American Muslims is even slightly provocative? Are we no longer allowed to discuss Polish communities?


If you don't find a topic interesting, you do not need to contribute to that thread, do you? Personally I find a great many aspects of Poland interesting, including Poland's minorities. I wasn't aware of the long and proud links between Polish Muslims and American Muslims and am glad I had the chance to read the article Delph linked to. I wish we had had a chance to discuss the topic without people deliberately trying to drive the thread off topic.
