long story short - I am Canadian, my girlfriend is Polish. We are thinking about having our baby in Canada, but how does it work exactly?

The baby will get a Canadian passport one day anyways if born here, so we are not concerned with that. Really just timing that I have to be back in Canada during that time period.

Anybody have health insurance advice?

Does my girlfriend need a Visa if she stays longer than 90 days?

has anyone been in a similar situation of knocking up a Polish broad? ;)

In Europe marriage is solution for such problem. Then insurer of husband pays for wife.

Your girlfriend is ineligible for OHIP (or whatever province you're in) unless she has permanent resident status. You would need to marry her and then apply for permanent residency. In Ontario, there is a 3 month waiting period after landing before health coverage kicks in. There may be some exceptions under extrordinairy circumstances, but I would expect that you're going to need to pay cash for the medical services delivered to your girlfriend should you choose to deliver the baby in Canada.

Note: it is true that you can confer Canadian citizenship to your baby even if born outside of Canada. However, if you're a first generation immigrant, the rules under which your baby will be able to retain citizenship in adulthood are more complicated. You may want to check out the CiC website.

Cheers bud.
