Girlfriend Re-entering Canada! CBSA issues - how long does she have to leave the country before re-entry?

I will keep this short :) basically my girlfriend already came to canada once for a 2 month stint, now here for 5 months (and we took a week vacation down south). I am a Canadian National.

Coming back from Carribean, a super aggressive and mean CBSA border guard pulled us aside and grilled us and although she is still within her 6 months (visitor stay to Canada), he says he flagged her in the computer and that if she ever wants to come back we need to do a Residency application.

This seems a bit insane since I told him that we were undecided if moving here permanently, and that she always abided the laws here and has left before her stay is up.

How long must she leave Canada for before coming back for another 'up to ' 6 month stay?

Can he really flag her and prevent her from re-entering when she has done nothing wrong and is still following Canadian Tourist visitor laws?

In the nation of the obcokrajowa... my poor girlfriend is treated like a Criminal :( the sad fact of Canada marching lock-step to please our American friends south of the border...

disappointedly yours,

With precious few exceptions, none of which are pertinent to your girlfriend's case, staying in any foreign country is a privilege, not a right, and the host country can withhold or cancel that privilege at any time at its discretion. This is true of Canada, the US and Poland, and every other country in the world.

The fact that she would have to get a residence permit in the future does not seem unfair. After all, she can return without any problems if she gets the residence permit.

Hardly. I'm American and have been treated harshly for no apparent reason by American border guards when returning from Mexico, and that was in the 1980's long before the war on terrorism was ever even thought of. It's the price we have to pay for national security.

Sucks to hear this. Pretty sure she's gotta wait a year before coming back? If that's not correct then at least 6 months prior to coming back. I'm betting going to the carribean and coming back is what screwed you up here.
