I really like Polish American Deli in Runnemede NJ. It's in South Jersey.
Polish American Deli 125 N Black Horse Pike Runnemede, NJ

They have awesome pierogi, including the ones with prunes and other fruits! Also, their kielbasy and lunch meats are superb!!! Besides that, they send packages to Poland, have Polish newspapers etc.
There is a new Polish Deli in Flemington, NJ called Pyza at 150 Main St. Haven't been there yet but will go there soon. I will post back after I check it out.
Today I went to Flemington looking for the Polish Deli and it was turned into a dress shop. A woman coming out told me the deli was gone. Too bad. There are no Polish deli's in Hunterdon County that I know of.
Alex & Terri's on 36th St and Broadway. Small deli/bakery, few groceries, but has smoked meats, makes own pierogis, poppy/nut/prune breads [what is the Polish word for these?], and babka. Close to Easter they suspend other deli activity to focus on making enough babka, there can be a line out the door.
I live in Bayonne right now, this is by far the best home made Polish food; I know the family personally and I can vouch for the quality and freshness!
There is a site: polishplate.com with list of restaurants and deli stores in USA. They have mostly polish food businesses but also businesses with food from other european countries.
there use to be a factory type place in Bayonne just off ave a around 23 rd street where I'd get kielbasa, rings and rings of them......anyone know if they are still around
1899 Springfield Ave, Maplewood, NJ 07040 Cross Streets: Near the intersection of Springfield Ave and Park Ave
Read about "Piast" in New York Times:
''Almost all of the meats, those 16 varieties of kielbasa included, are prepared and smoked in Piast’s own smokehouses, two of which are in the Maplewood location. The Rybak family, including Henry Rybak, Mr. Rybak’s father and the founder of the Piast enterprise, owns three stores, the Maplewood location being the first. The other two are in Garfield.''
''Kielbasa, a variety of hams, bacon and even beef jerky all come out of Piast’s smokehouses. Mr. Rybak introduced beef jerky, made from certified Angus beef, to his assortment two years ago in an effort to reach out to his non-Polish customer base.''
My father co-owns a Polish bakery in New Jersey. It's either in South Amboy or Sayreville (where he grew up). I know there are quite a few polish delis and restaurants around there. Most of my Polish ancestors settled there. :)
Royal Bakery (Chruschiki & good cakes & babka) 3290 Washington Rd, Parlin, NJ 732-721-9825
That's my dad's bakery! I may start working there on Saturdays if anyone wants to stop in. :D
where the hell can I get a GOOD Babka...no raisins, no cheese....just a good dense, babka...Im In SJ, Camden County
You come to Philadelphia and try Krakus Market:
3150 Richmond Street, Port Richmond Philadelphia, near the Allegheny exit of !-95
Now Krakus has babka, but you will have to see if it's the kind you like...The Port Richmond are and Bridesburg used to have, say, 10 Polish bakeries where you could get a variety of babka and Polish and other pastries, plus rye and pumper nickle breads...However, these are gone, as that generation is retired or passed on.
I'm going down to the bakery today if anyone lives near Parlin (I know it's predominantly Polish up there). ;) And I -think- I start working there next Saturday... =]
My wife and I normally go to Olden Ave in Trenton, where there are 2-3 Polish shops. They tend to be a bit cleaner and nicer than those in Philadelphia, which is also nearby. One of the stores bakes fresh bread on-site. Furthermore, the Trenton shops carry small quantities of Polish beer, whereas in Philadelphia you must buy a full case.
haha, yeah, SAVA rocks! i know the owner was struggling to stay open for a while, but the community pulled together and basically went there to eat as much as possible to keep her there. Jersey City is so grateful for that place!
there's also "Europa" on Jersey Ave., not a restaurant, but a Polish deli, it's been there for years. every time i went for a run up Jersey Ave. i could smell the Polish meats from the other side of the street.
Anybody know where (in NJ) or even how to buy the (raw) pork for cooking karkowka? I keep getting told it's "pork neck" but I've never found this cut at supermarkets, local farm, etc. Is this only available at Polish butcher shops? I keep thinking it must be available since it's eaten all over Europe, just cooked in different ways!
