Animosity against second and third generation poles ?

Listen. I see a lot of animosity against second and third generation poles wanting to come back to the homeland. What is the problerm? We want to connect back with our roots. We will bring an enormous amount of resources including education and money..Why will you not welcome us??

There isn't a problem. I'm fourth generation and I've always been made more than welcome in Poland. Helps if you can speak the language and say your pan/pana's...

Foreign exchange is always welcome; American education? I don't think Poland compares unfavourably with the U.S. I recently read that only 10% of Harvard graduates knew why we have seasons when asked.

What signals have you detected that you are not welcome in Poland?

They are just jealous .. I dont care about it. If I want to come back, then I come. If student-foreigners from third world countries are able to live for free in the best hotels of Poland and to get study for free on university, then I can back to the country where my roots are.

Because in most cases, you won't actually come. Or you'll come and criticise everything in sight because it's not like where you're really from.

If you want to come back and invest, go ahead. You won't, however.

I've never experienced animosity when visiting Poland. On occasion I've gotten a look from someone but who knows what that means? I speak Polish and I don't act superior in any social setting. I have however, noticed a high level of interest from Polkas, some were even married. Maybe it's my winning smile :)

The OP said nothing about "Polish Jews". He is talking about ANY second or third generation person with Polish roots. Why hijack the thread with such a stale topic?

I'm not at all mixed up. I have heard of many Polish (and other European) children moving to the U.S. and having to be moved up a year because they were more advanced than their classmates.

The research you quoted is to be expected in the richest, and one of the most populous countries in the world. By the way, these universities buy in a great deal of their expertise from abroad by offering European and Asian academics contracts they would be nuts to refuse.

It's probably a better indicator to look at the median levels, e.g. reading age and overall literacy and numeracy in the general population. I know it's anecdotal but when I read website forums the worst English I read is usually from the U.S. btw, I'm not anti-American.

yeah, on a high school level, maybe, however from my personal experience in Europe, your kids are (in the meantime), just as dumb as ours but when it comes to universities, whatever you've heard, was just a rumor. You can't always listen to people, my friend.

This used to happen in Canada too. Two kids of my sister-in-law, went through it in 1990s.


There is also another factor:

Ivy League American universities are very good, many state universities are just average, but all are judged on the same number of criteria, which are not available in Poland, such as money, laboratories. Poor standing of Polish universities have many causes - one is dispersion of resources and publications. For example, in Poznań alone there are six state universities: Classical (where I studied), Technology (where I taught), Medical, Economical, Life Science, Fine Arts and three state colleges: Music, Physical Education, Banking. Add to it about 20 or so private colleges at various level.

If you collect all the publications from all the six state universities, the number will be several times higher than when taken separately.
I bet that would be easily comparable with the total output from all faculties of both Toronto universities: UofT and York.

It's measurable if you open your eyes and compare achievements of people in different countries. You can't take numbers for granted, especially when the presented difference (your post) isn't very convincing.

Why are you implying something that I have never said or intended. Did I lie about the numbers? Did I put down "achievements" of other countries? The subtopic was Poland vs. USA, not Poland vs. Singapore or Canada. Did not I post the link to PISA results, for you to compare and analyse, not only the numbers, but also various cross-correlations? There are several hundred pages in that document, so help yourself.
