Hello everyone,

I'm a Dutch student at the university of Wageningen and I'm doing a study about the image English people have of polish immigrants. We've made a survey with which we would like to found out that image. I'm not sure if this is the right forum or not, but I hoped that some of you would know a forum for english people about polish immigrants. Or maybe here are some people who would like to help us out with our study?

I'm not sure it's the right place- ppl here are eiter somehow fascinated with Poland or hate it. They had to be interested enough to look on the web for this forum so the are not exactly a average English

Mien,

I thought that universities in Holland have higher level... sorry... questions from survey:

- Poles have a larger share in criminality than Englishman
- Is there a form of criminality that you think Poles are more commonly involved in
- What do you think is the biggest cause of criminality among Poles?
- The amount of alcohol Poles consume (compared to Englishmen), I experience as
- Would you treat someone differently when you would know they have a Polish background?
- To what extent do you agree with the following statement; Crime under Poles is a direct result of alcohol consumption.
- To what extent do you agree with the following statement; Poles are more criminal than other big groups of immigrants in England (like Sweden).

I sent an email to your university with question about quality of teaching.... This survey doesn't make any sense, it's really shame for a University of Wageningen that their students are at this level... eh...

I would like to know why this survey is only concerned with Poles and crime in the UK.

Possibly its aimed at those with less liberal views than yourself.

But it seems they are not allowed to have good impressions.

It's not Pam. Alcohol consumption seems to be a key factor too :D

But it seems they are not allowed to have good impressions.

So how does very positive and very negative fit in with your statement. Perhaps you read the post and not the questionnaire.

I feel it is a little unfortunate in tone but in business dealings I've found the Dutch to be very matter of fact.

The clues in the post Pam

I'm not dim and you don't need to be sarcastic. The questions are all geared towards presenting Poles in a bad light. Slightly biased don't you think?

But it seems they are not allowed to have good impressions.

My thoughts exactly.

the level of english in that quiz was atrocious and the questions were biased.
funny as hell though.

It's quite possible that the students are studying Criminology ( maybe Sociology) and looking at whether indigenous populations view immigrant groups as potential (actual) criminals.

The study isn't necessarily stating that all Poles are criminals or seen as criminals, it's looking as much at the prejudices of host populations?

.

I'm not sure it's the right place- ppl here are eiter somehow fascinated with Poland or hate it. They had to be interested enough to look on the web for this forum so the are not exactly a average English

I tend to agree with you, none of us are objective, or representative of the average Brit!

Slightly biased don't you think?

How can it be biased when its states it is targeting a specific genre?

It's not biased. It's not PC.

Obviously I didn't make myself clear. The questions are biased.

The clues in the post

Exactly Ant63, capital E for English and lower case p for Polish. Immigrants instead of migrant workers
As an add on, the most racist people I have ever had the displeasure of meeting just happen to be from the Netherlands, I would guess it is due to being from a small country and their boxed education. I often find most Dutch liberal to the face and very conservative in the comforts of their own home.

When I think of Polish, I think of:

Wouldn't it be better if you would phrase your question like this?

What do you think about the Polish migrant workers?

having worked a bit in market research and marketing I can assure you that those are 'loaded' questions - not a question of 'not being PC' more a question of skew and bias,

and very far from any academic standards that I have seen in my more recent work as an academic proofreader and editor.

Also what I really don't like is 'Englishman' when I suppose he is referring to the population of the UK. (ie English N Irish Scottish or Welsh, man or woman) I am surprised as I would have thought that educational standards would be higher in the Netherlands.

The funniest thing is that us English are supposed to be the uneducated ones of Europe if you listen to any Dutch or Germans, they are soooo superior!

focusgrouptips.com/qualitative-research.html

And my final whinge is the low standard of English of the whole thing!

Okay so not everyone is so excited about our survey.. I would like to tell you that I'm only in my first year of university and this is the first survey I made. And the questions are quite simple because we want the whole English population to be able to complete the survey, also the not highly educated ones.

I appreciate your honesty, and I'll try to do it better next time.

The funniest thing is that us English are supposed to be the uneducated ones of Europe if you listen to any Dutch or Germans, they are soooo superior!

By the way, it's complete nonsense that Dutch and Germans think English are uneducated and I find your reaction very childish to be honest.

The study isn't necessarily stating that all Poles are criminals or seen as criminals, it's looking as much at the prejudices of host populations?

This is also right by the way. That's the whole idea of the survey, and we compare it to reality to see how racist people are.

Yes but Mien I am not saying the questions are too simple, I am saying they are badly written, as well as being skewed.
