Poles again shed blood for Britain

As part of their protest to demand requal rights in the UK, thousands of Poles donated blood at London NHS centres which had to turn non-Polish donors away. As Jerzy Buczyński, who heads the British Poles Initiative, explaiend: 75 years ago we spilt our blood in defence of Britian, and again today we are donating blood to support the country in which we live. All we demand is to be ttreated fairly.

Strange, I thought the protest was against being labeled benefit claimants not about equal rights as you say.

When I was young I went to school with people from all over the commonwealth and never once did I ever hear anyway one make such a fuss as the Polish do.

In WW2 my British grandfather at the age of 27 left his wife to go and fight Nazi Germany in the name of freedom for Poland. He was shot dead soon after on a foreign shore for a foreign land for a foreign man. My grandmother had a breakdown and brought her children up alone, my mother longed for her father all her life.

I wish they had let you die and never gone to War. I would have meet my grandfather that's for sure. If you have any problem with the UK then leave, leave today, get out and go back to Poland.

The protest was not about Poles demanding equal rights in the UK Polonius.
The strike ( only a few turned up ) and the signing up for blood donation was about Poles wanting to demonstrate their economic value and importance to the UK.

In fact only 12 people turned up in a bus laid on by the Socislist Workers' Party. Of those 12, 5 were Polish.

Yes, the blood donating thing was separate and was praiseworthy. It showed community spirit with a nod towards reminding people of wartime sacrifice. Nothing to do with equal rights, since all EU citizens have equal rights in the UK. As far as the state is concerned, Poles do not get a bad deal.

If there's anything on this Buczynski's part about "being labelled benefit scroungers" he should remember that Britain has a free press and if he doesn't like what they print, let him organise a protest outside the Daily Mail office. The state is not going to impose censorship about Poles or anyone else.

Just a shame that Warsaw don't accept British citizens as blood donors.

Poles already have equal rights in the UK. If that were not the case, more than the reported 15 protestors, mostly British, would have turned up for the demonstration. Your strange attempts to drive a wedge between the million Poles in the UK and their largely welcoming hosts will fail as badly as the demonstration. The young man who promoted the blood donation comes across as a decent and reasonable guy. Good luck to him, and bad luck to the gutter press in the UK and gutter journalists everywhere.

They already have the right to equal pay. If you want to talk about the right to strike, well, that has been eroded since the Thatcher days, and will be further eroded under the present government. Don't start me on that one; I'm an old Trades Unionist. If Poles are being paid less than Brits (and they are not, unless they are under-cutting others, and that goes on), they have the right to inform the authorities and seek redress. You do not speak for Polish workers in the UK, so you cannot say why they didn't turn up, but your suggestion that they (all of them?) didn't show out of fear of being sacked is ridiculous.

Polonius what do you know about life in the UK? equal rights for everyone these days, if anything it is the native 'Pommies' (which you as a Yank have no right to describe British people) who are being undercut.

Why not stick to posting about something you know about?

Good news is that this shed of blood isn`t on the battlefield. For sure Britain, as country friendly to Poland, wouldn`t put Poles in that situation.

I would have shed my blood. Polish blood is a very valuable gift to give. More valuable than Brit blood
