Posting from UK to Poland....not good!

You know, I think the HDI is a good indicator on whether you'll get your mail or not.

I only know about all the mail I didn't receive, tracked in the UK, signed for by Poczta Polska and vanished, somewhere in their 'care'.

You've been living in PL for 10 years yet you complain about most things here. You sound like you are not happy or satified with your Polish life, so I guess it would be better for you to go live some where else. That's it. There's nothing xenophobic about it.

No I don't. Why not count my posts over the last couple of years and see if there are more negative or positive ones. Though on this forum there are people who argue most things are perfect here just for the sake of it.


I'm very happy and satisfied. The mediocrity of Poczta Polska is a trivial thing. Do you think I don't have a right to criticise a postal service? I should pretend it's good and praise it?


This is home. Shouldn't I want, expect and encourage high standards in my home?

Royal Mail, easily. The decimation of the Post Office network (although the Government is ultimately responsible!) has been an utter crime, and the service has detoriated badly in recent years to the point of becoming unusable.

I wouldn't trust a word that they say either - Poczta Polska might be useless with complaints, but the Royal Mail isn't much better, if at all. One thing was actually telling about that report today - it's seen as a problem that every village doesn't have a post office. Compare this to the situation in the UK, where if a village has a post office, it's a minor miracle.

An Post isn't too great either, from what I remeber.

Because the main threads today (that you've looked at) are

a) the standard of workmanship
b) Poczta Polska admitting that they have quality problems
c) Consumer rights problems
d) a coke-addled senator and two prostitutes

Should I defend those things?

Don't be so selective - it seems you are only looking for the things you don't like.

And that's the problem here. People don't complain they just moan about everything as if theres nothing they can do about it. Proper complaints are constructive and can achieve something. (Although in the case of poczta polska that may be a little over optomistic).

I sent a one-of-a-kind historical postcard made out of pure copper from Alabama to Wrocław. Of course it never made it. I know, I know. Still, I hope whoever has it gets a paper cut. Or copper-cut, whatever.

My then girlfriend. I had started this thing of sending her antique, or somehow remarkable postcards. I sent Victorian-era, Georgian-Era, semi-erotic, even ones from her own country, no one touched a thing. Then, like an idjit, I found one in an antique store made of pure, Alabama copper. It was custom plate-stamped and everything. I should never have put it in the mailbox, and I really have no one to blame but myself, but to THIS DAY, that damn post card burns me up.

I have said it before , and i will say it again...

During my eight years living in Poland i have had lots and lots of parcels sent from the UK , many containing nice shiney expensive things , and not one single item has gone missing...

The only time anything disapeared was when my sister foolishly sent some money in a letter , and i am pretty sure that went missing before it left the UK...

Maybe i am lucky that my stuff passes through offices where everyone is very honest...?

Can,t complain about Polska Pochta at all...

It does take a month for my airmail letters to get to Moscow , but they all get there eventually , and the delay may well be at the Russian end...

In a padded envelope or jiffy bag obviously? Otherwise it would fall through an ordinary envelope.

No, postcards are just that.. cards that you post without envelopes. I know, I should sent it Priority at the last and put it IN something. Believe me, I know.

you don't need to send parcels by recorded delivery in order to make a claim. Simply ask for a proof of post when you post it, and the item is automatically insured up to £35. If it doesn't arrive, fill in an international claims form, include your proof of post and receive a cheque from royal mail. Recorded delivery is not an option for international items, you must be getting confused with international signed for. Recorded delivery is inland recorded and insured up to £35. Basically, the only difference between standard delivery and recorded is that recorded requires a signature. That's it. Both are insured for the same amount. To insure for more, send it via registered delivery inland, or with international signed for, stipulate the items value, and insure it to that value.
