Pack from Ireland to Poland via An Post

Hi there, I'm living at £ódź!

I was supposed to receive a package from Ireland this afternoon, it was sended by An Post from there, at the tracking page it says that it was attempted to be delivered but there was no answer at the address (but I was waiting for this all day long, it never came), someone knows if this An Post works with some local post office to go to claim my package...??

In Post does not work with the Post office. They are totally separate businesses. You should have got a card telling you where to pick the parcel up.

Most likely they work with THE local post office. An Post in Ireland is what Poszta Polska is in Poland. Don't worry about the status. I once waited for a package for four days and it said "out for delivery" for those whole four days. It may well be that it just arrived in Poland and is currently on it's way to Lodz.

If the postman can't get you at the address, he will leave a notice paper with the address where you can pick it up.

Not all post offices co-operate with Poczta Polska due to constant theft, even of tracked items. The Royal Mail stopped a while ago, as did several others. Not sure about AnPost, however there's a strong chance they don't. If it's a courier they should try to redeliver - An email to them via the contact bit of their website should say who they co-operate with in Poland.

Yes, they use a private company. As of earlier this year.

An Post and Royal Mail are different organisations, however they do work very closely together. It doesn't affect the price as far as I know (though Royal Mail are not cheap nowadays for parcels). I don't remember the name of the courier they use in Poland but I have noticed that the service is quicker and better. For letters, I think they still use Poczta Polska (and there are still thefts, if there's a bank card in - I had one forwarded from the UK - it never arrived and a couple of subsequent ones never arrived. I suspect someone was waiting for a PIN code to come).

The Irish AnPost might be different, however I suspect they do the same thing now.

Stuff send from Ireland to me used to go missing all the time.
Put a stop to it by getting everything addressed to a fake Polish name at the same address.

Very tempting to mail something that looks like a credit card when x-rayed to a non-existent person with a foreign name and some very, very nasty bacteria in the envelope...

The problem with that is when the postie gets cute and leaves an advice slip requesting that Mr A N Other comes to collect the post.

Very good point. Our postman used to do that all the time, even when we were home. And then when I went to the PO where they knew me quite well I still had to show my ID.

Yea, that could be a problem, I've explained to the owner of my local post office about it though and she's cool with it. Gave her a couple of bottles of vodka at christmas, a little bribery goes a long, long way in Poland
