Limit on quantity of cigarettes brought back from Poland to Ireland?

quick question guys,

i always thought that the limit of cigarettes you could take from Poland to Ireland was 200, but a friend of mine is trying to convince me that there is no limit because of the fact that Poland is a member of the EU, and the fact that you've already paid tax on them. what's the story with it???

thanks

(fairly tipsy, got a bargain on a bottle of Bushmills earlier :))

The Irish revenue has a website.

Have a look here: revenue.ie/en/customs/leaflets/pn1878.html.

It's the same rule applied to Poland as with Spain/etc. I don't know what the Irish are saying - 800 is the least you're allowed to take between EU countries, but many countries have higher limits.

(according to that website that Stu posted, the limit from Poland is 800 into Ireland, the minimum limit according to EU law)
