I agree with RN, it's a fecking disgrace that Polish gov did nothing for here. It would be good to check If family/friends requested any help from Polish authorities, If they did and refused, it's a disgrace X 10 000.

What government will?

I can only speak for the British one, but it's well known that they won't get involved in such cases as you're expected to take this sort of thing into account.

No Government will say it will pay for medical flights for expats back to their country(Irish government have done this in the past). All I was trying to get across on this post, was that people regardless of where they come from or what they are going through will try to help people.

I do not want this post to become a post about weather governments will help, I wanted to appeal to people to do a good thing. That has being proven by the amount of cash that has being lodged.

The good news, the flight is being booked next week. Lets hope she will make more Christmas

Ever watch Banged Up Abroad ? Some British embassies seem to do more for British citizens than others. Some reps/ambassadors will do their best to help, others are only too happy to kick back, do the square root of fooooook all and collect a nice cheque each month. Par for the course in the civil service.

What we have here is a dying Polish woman living in Ireland who wants money to go back to Poland. Now it's not like me to be heartless and cynical but I lost a job to a Pole earlier this year and I have a Pole living on the top room of my house who has not worked for ten months.

My question is 'does the Pole who took my English teaching job give two figs about whether I live or die?' As far as she was concerned I could go and slowly rot. Also, when I was unemployed, the council do not pay full rents any more and I had to make up £200 each month towards my rent. Meanwhile the Pole at the top of the house gets full JSA. (His rent is paid for by his partner.)

These people come here and 'care not much' whether I live or die, so why now should we care about them?

you don't have to care about them. But I believe that what goes around comes around. It takes more energy to spew hate than it does to be caring. You are lumping Poles into one group and not every Pole sucks the system.

Last week I was driving my kid to dance. I was turning left and apparently I had the right of way.....of course this is Poland and there is no sign to indicate it. I stopped because two cars were coming in my direction and neither had their blinker on---so I am not going to drive in front of them. So the guy behind me starts honking his horn and telling me to go and signaling me to open my eyes. Ok. so I drive on and gave him the finger. The guy chases me down and pulls up beside me, rolls down his window and tells me to open my eyes. I said to him that I have my daughter in my car. Then he starts swearing at me. I gave him the finger again and drove off.

I don't understand how some people can be so angry over something so silly. Their lives must be so unpleasant if they resort to swearing and chasing a person because they stopped at a right of way. My husband was furious-- I just felt sorry for the guy.

Anyway- what does this have to do with the lady coming back to Poland. Nothing. But those who are so against this and have your opinions that make you so angry should really find a better way to channel your anger. And I feel sorry for you- because this woman is dying and you still need to criticize. "I don't normally criticize....but blah blah blah"

People can help her if they want to and she should be able to die in peace.

You don't have to care about them. You may have very good reason not to, or no reason at all - this is nobody's business.

You don't have to contribute.
But you can't ban everyone else from contributing if they want to.

The thing that annoys me most about that story is that these men are so tuff when theyre abusing a woman driver, not the same story with men.

I don't mean to highjack the thread. My point is- stop being so angry and let this woman die- anger makes people ugly. Or just watch Downton Abbey----that should put a spring in your step.

The consensus view from Brits in Warsaw is that if they were laying in the driveway of the British embassy bleeding to death, the only reason that staff would call security to have you removed is so they could get their cars in and out.

Yep, just like the US and UK armies are so tough when they invade foreign countries WB. What makes them so tough is that they know they have bigger, better, more destructive fire power than the army they are about to take on otherwise they wouldn't invade and kill, would they now?

Women now have so much power compared to their mothers and grandmothers and unfortunately the very fabric of society is being destroyed because of it. In South Africa in the nineties one woman was raped every 20 seconds simply because the men were so emasculated and it was the only way they could try and retain dignity and respect. That's just how we evolved like it or not.

It's all well and good being a bleeding heart Pip and I personally have no ill will towards anyone, least of all a dying woman but we live in a monetary system and if some foreigner comes here and takes my 'oxygen supply' away from me I will die. It's that simple. Gordon Brown famously said 'British jobs for British workers' and then lost his job because he called some woman a bigot who had the temerity to ask 'why are all these Poles here in my town' . She was really upset at the number of Eastern Europeans who had descended upon her neighborhood.

I am a Polish citizen living in Ireland and i just can’t believe how indifferent is Polish embassy in this case. I hope that something like that will not happen to me or any other Polish people living in Ireland because the only support we can count on is from all good people like you, regardless nationality. I think that everyone who feel that is a shame that Polish Embassy did nothing to help that girl and her family should sent an e-mail and tell them what feel about that, it will cost you nothing. The reality is if they did this for everyone then it would be a huge burden on the state. It is tragic when things like this happen but by relocating permanently responsibility was transfered to the host country. The home country, be Poland England or where ever has only finite resources which should be spent on people within the home country.

Where would you set the bar for repatriation? Do you set it at the point where it is going to be cheap or at the point where you need a full medical flight? It is horrible, but at some point we must have a responsibility not only to ourselves but others also.

This is an unpleasant discussion, and I'm sure governments around the world have had it also.

In this case, it's because she's young, beautiful with a husband and has a young son. They seem a 'nice' family. If she was as ugly as a bag of spanners with no husband or child, hardly anyone would give a toss.

I hear what you are saying about you losing your job to a Pole, and you're right they wouldn't care if you die, but I think you have to try and put that aside here.

There is a difference between an immigrant taking an aggressive stance when it comes to its new countries labour market and what this thread is actually about.

And we are all guilty of "letting other people die and not caring about their well being". How many homeless people do we ignore each day?

About ten, at least. For anyone who lives in an urbanised area. It sucks but we cant save the world.

Its just the way it is. :(

People can help her if they want to and she should be able to die in peace.

People are usually as happy as they make up their minds to be. Without looking too hard, I can usually find a dozen people per day to find fault with - if I take their appearance/skin color into account, I can work that up into two dozen ethnic 'assumptions' about them, their families and their way of life. There are two things you can be certain of in life - you will get **** on more than you deserve - and you will at times - be given more blessings than you deserve. I've lost MANY a job to MANY people over my six decades but their race/status/skin color/immigration status had little to do with it - somewhere, some day, on the other side of that interview desk - that 'boss' chose someone else and not me. Maybe - just maybe - they were better qualified? In a better mood that day? Didn't go into an interview with a chip on their shoulder? Or maybe - it was life, as "life" sometimes is - not always fair.

Get over it and move on - I don't even know you and I can feel your self-pity from here. Don't do that to yourself; you deserve better.

I hope the woman gets her wish.
