someone told me that if i want to drive to Poland in a hire car - i may have problems.

Germany does not allow hire cars (cars that are rented - eg hertz car/ budget car etc ) across its border with Poland...

is this true ?

i want to hire a car in London and drive it to Poland next week .

it has European insurance and hire company gives permission to take it to Europe .....

has anyone hired a car in UK - eg.London and driven to Poland ?

what company did you use ? ( are they cheap)

did you have problems on German-Polish border ?

thanks ...

insurance is not a problem - many english car hire companies allow car hire to europe including poland for an extra £80-£100 to cover insurance.

one hire company i rang quoted £270 for seven days covering all europe unlimted mileage.

problem is germany - do they let hire cars across through to poland?

am sure they do ,,, just a rumour i heard says otherwise.

There is no border any more you simply drive straight on in and back. I'm sure thats a load of crap.

Best place to check driving regulations in Europe is the AA. Dont know if they will have anything related to hired cars, i cant see any probs, as long as you're insured and the vehicle is legal, what problem could there possibly be?

Heres the AA website - theaa.com/motoring_advice/overseas/index.html

Can be. Depends on the hire company, but some of them certainly don't allow it.

As long as you have permission, sure.

They sometimes don't cover Poland, but it seems to be mainly German car hire companies that have an issue with it.
