Is there actually anything cheaper in Poland than in UK?

I've learn from InWroclaw's thread that a renting of a flat in Poland and in the UK is about the same cost. I've already know that food is usually cheaper in the UK as well. Also the electronics. Hence I presume the costs of life are higher in Poland than in the UK!!! Is there actually any great expense for a household in the UK that could change this ratio?

Dunno about that one. I used to rent a really, really (really) tiny studio flat in a rather rough part of London for £600 a month.

Liar. There is no community charge in Poland. No road tax. No TV license, all of which are household expenses in the UK.

A good size flat is not much more in many parts of the UK, sure. A shoebox flat is of course cheaper in Wroclaw, obviously.

All flats are much more expensive in Wrocław in real terms if based on local wages as wages in Wroclaw are much lower and yet rents are not.

Fruit such as apples and oranges are more expensive in the UK, and macaron/pasta usually is too. There are food items that are more expensive in the UK, but again not in relation to wages and real terms based on salaries.

In my experience, a typical grocery shop in Poland is not that much cheaper than a Briton pays. Yet a Pole's wages are much lower and their rents are not cheap and if they rent a decent-sized flat then their rent is nearly the same as in some UK cities. Of course, Britons have to pay council tax (a local tax for services such as garbage collection, street lights, libraries, schools, emergency services, street cleaning, and keeping a lot of bureacrats in easy and well paid jobs) each year of around a thousand pounds, sometimes more and as far as I know that is included in monthly service charges for Polish flats or is perhaps not chargeable at all in some cities (although that will perhaps change!).

i would love to know where you can buy a bag of fresh vegetables for the price that you can in poland
or meat for that matter

what you also need to understand is that poles have much more disposable income than british people
many young people are now inheriting flats
with no mortgage

There is a real property tax which an owner of a house/flat/allotment etc has to pay regularly.
Detached houses owners have to pay for the garbage collection individually, while for a flat owner it's usually included in the housing cooperative monthly payments.

Yes, that is what I said as I had heard about it. It is probably much less than the UK's, I know.

entertainment is quite a lot cheaper
for instance
i have a lightning fast internet connection (100mbps, soon to be 250mbps) for around 60zl a month
you will not find that in the uk
and it is uncapped
uk intenet connections are normally capped at a ridiculous low amount of bandwidth

Services, which are based mainly on human work, such as restaurants, barbers, dentists for sure and such but overall yes, the cost of living in Poland is not much lower than in most of western Europe (and right now It seems to be higher than in the USA) I've been laughing for years at PF people repeating again and again "Poles make less money but It's cheaper here", well It isn't really.

i dont recall finding good quality meat at anything near polish prices in germany
i dont recall being able to get things made or fixed at a very reasonable cost
i dont recall being able to travel across half of western european countries for a reasonable price

I agree, most of the veg is cheaper than England but the only veg that is significantly cheaper (to my klnowledge) is beetroot and potatoes. Additionally, at times prices here match or exceed the price of the same vegetable in Britain at that time of year (eg cauliflower, broccoli, courgettes).

240m2 house on 11 ara, yearly land tax of 300 Złoty, fortnightly rubbish collection is 28 Złoty per month.

Cottage in the UK on roughly the same amount of land, 8,350.00 Złoty per year, including rubbish collection but excluding garden waste, hedge trimmings etc which cost another 480 Złoty for the council to take away.

Yeah Poles it vegs seasonably. In season those which grow in Poland are silly cheap... too bad I don't like vegs :)
I believe that in the UK you have a staggering range of exotic fruits at quite reasonable price.

I was told that the so called TV licence fee was included in the cable/internet package. This is not the case in the UK. On a like for like basis, to live and spend as I did in the UK, whether on necessary items or things that I like, ie, smoking, drinks etc, I worked out that I am around 20,000 Złoty a year, better off. Friends and relatives that visit, all comment on how cheap it is here, compared to where they live in the UK. I am not arguing that they do not have a Polish income, only stating how they compare things.

It is not. Unelss you're retired, you have to pay it on Poczta Polska.

So was I after I recently discovered there was a fee, but somebody else contradicted that, I think it was on this forum somewhere, and said I have to pay separately as not all cable companies collect it.


Try to get as many leafy green vegetables (washed thoroughly) into your diet as possible, especially lightly steamed broccoli, it can do wonders for health and illness prevention.
